hmm.. I just downloaded the new Counter-Strike 1.6 update... that was like 400 mb. Last night I connected.... and got right into playing without a problem.
I heard that steam has had more people than they thought on their servers so they had to be shut down or something? Whenever I click on steam on my desktop nothing comes up, but under windwos task manager... its shows steam running.... Is this just meaning that like Steam is trying to connect to a server but all teh servers are shut down or bussy? Because after a while from starting up steam all of a sudden steam will finally connect.... Does anyone know why this is happening? Is this just because steam's servers are being overloaded.... or am I doing something wrong? thanks...

Now Im on "steam" but I cannot connect into any servers... when i try to join a game of Counter-Strike it says
"This game is currently unavailable, please try another game" Does this mean that .. the server in particular isnt working ... or as in Counter-Strike as a whole on this Steam server? |

Well in order to use the forums at counter-strike.net you have to register with gamespy.. so I think im registered... but how do I play CS 1.6 on gamespy, because I dont believe I can go back to 1.5 unless I reinstall everything.... thanks

Steam and 1.6 have been running great for me. Which installer did you use? You should still have 1.5 intact unless you told steam to remove the old files, which is easy to do if you don't read. You CAN NOT play 1.6 on anything but steam. 1.5 uses the WON servers which is why you can play it through Gamespy, Allseeingeye, hlsw, or any other program. They are going to eventually do away with WON all together and there will only be Steam. Personally I like steam, it has very nice features and it will get better.
Just be patient, sometimes it takes a min or so for steam to start up. If your getting the "game is not available" message, wait 5min and try again. Peace |

I think Steam works great. I was beta testing it before it was released. There are some bugs in it, but I'm sure Valve will work it out considering that the program is so vitally important to them.
So what does anybody think of the riot shields, is it a nice touch? |

The sheild is going to be just like the awp. A lot of ppl will hate it and its very deadly in the right hands. I think Its an interesting part of the game and I couldn't care less if it was in or out of the game.

Since were on the subject
I haven't been able to play my HL/CS mods at all for sometime against others. I went to dl an update, belive it was 1.5 and when it loaded up, it told me that I had the wrong language ver, I needed english. Um, that's what I was using. So I went back and reloaded my HL, then the updates and even the full Ver, and still got the error. I finally gave up. Have any of you heard of this and if so, how to fix it?

I know the problem happening for both you guys. Quintz, ya need to get the package of Steam + CS . That should solve your problem.
And muTe, it is not your fault. It is Steam. Your problem is discussed on Steam's homepage actually, and the update coming tonight should fix your problem. I hope I was of some help guys. EDIT: Quintz, don't use the WON ID HL program anymore. Valve will soon (if they haven't already) junk it. You have to use Steam to play HL for now on. Do you have a firewall? That was my problem at first too. You can still allow Steam to communicate past the firewall, but Steam will still not work.
You either have to completely turn it off or open a particular port. So do you have a firewall? |
