AWSD or the ARROW keys?

When playing first person shooters, what keys do you use for movement. Personally I use the Arrows because I have since I was younger.

AWSD - Always have always will. Its because its closer to my left hand then the arrows are.

Yep, AWSD...much easier for your left hand while your right is on the mouse.

Damn. Am I the only one who uses the arrows anymore? I know all of my friends except a few here in Sacramento use the arrows. I remember back in the day when AWSD was not default and it was all about the arrow keys. Maybe I need to make a transition. I dont really mind using the arrows, I have the keyboard more on my left side when I play a game usually, plus my hands are pretty big so i can get to all the surrounding buttons pretty easily.

I wonder how I ever lived without it

Hmmm, I use the number pad:

7 jump, 8 forward, 9 crouch, 5 strafe left, 6 backward, 7 strafe right, enter is reload or use, and then I assign special functions for all the keys (lean, spells, force powers, etc) on the number pad- this has always worked quite well for me.

Arrow keys; NumPad INS for Jump, Right Ctrl for crouch, and I assign everything else to my 5-button IntelliMouse.

I use SDEF and then I have A to use for something else. But between the ARROW keys and AWSD I would definately choose AWSD!

I have to use the arrows. They're the only keys that have the little pointers on them to show me which way I'll be going...

WASD for me.. at first I hated it.. I used the arrow keys for such a long time until Counter-Strike came along...

I needed easy close by keys.. q - previous weapon r- reload... f- flashlight... e- use buttong z,x,c - radio commands and the 12345 buttons for guns and devices..

I never thought I would ever need to use it... But after a 5 months of counter-strike using those arrow keys just feels wierd to me..

Thank you for the compliment Acid-Klutch, seems I have done something right for once! I always thought that arrows still ruled, but I now see that I am wrong badly. Next game I play I will give AWSD a shot.

I was a big supporter of the arrow keys. The first time I used the AWSD was in Stonekeep.

But I pretty much preferred the arrow in Doom and Duke Nukem 3D. However, when HL came out I had to get used to aim and shoot with the mouse, something I never liked, and it's difficult to use the arrow keys and the mouse at the same time, so I adopted the AWSD combination. Now it's the only combination I use.

by the arrow keys, you do mean the ones on the numpad? or the 'separate' arrow keys? I just move my keyboard to the left
when playing fps or so, numpad has 16 keys to set, and the 6 from pgup and pgdown and so.
I do not like wasd so much because the 'W' key isnt directly centered above the S key(on all my cherry keyboards at least) . dont know why but it gives me the wrong feel when gaming longer than an hour or so. (btw, in belgium, its ZASD in azerty keyboards )

I have always used the arrow keys. I just turn the keyboard a little. I play MOH a lot (when my video card is working ) and I have all my FPS games set up the same way as MOH. ASDW just annoys me. There is no way of feeling where you fingers go without looking.

I'm using the ASWD keys. At the beginning I used the arrow keys till a friend of mine told me to try the arrow keys. Well, much easier, coz it's closer to the left hand, and shift, ctrl and space for crowl, sneak and jump are very close and easy to reach

But yeah, if you like the arrows then stick with the arrows.
I for example always use inverted mouse. For me it's the only logical way to play. I pull the mouse and I look up, I push the mouse and I look down. But I know only one more who uses inverted mouse. I find the other way not logical and it always confuses me. Maybe I should start another poll. .. non-inverted or inverted mouse

I use to use inverted mouse, then sometimes i still do, it is wierd. I usually switch it back after playing a console game where controls are not inverted.
