CS Steam?
What is the purpose or usfulness of downloading counter strike steam? Will it reset the maps is it a new game? does it go with CS retail? Can I still run 1.5 and be just as happy? Course I'm not happy. I need to get a whole heck of alot of maps cause ive been off the game so long and it takes forever to download them

The download of steam is a must. It is a very nice program IMO. Go to Steampowered and download the steam installer. If you only play CS then download the Counter-Strike Steam Installer or if you plan on playing DoD or another mod in the future, you can download the Full Steam Installer.
These installers come with all the files necessary to play CS 1.6. Just install and let it do its thing. 1.5 will be no more in the the future. They are going to shut down the WON servers and everything will be through Steam. The good thing about steam is you will never have to down load another update patch for CS again. Steam updates itself everytime you start it; If there is an update at that time. You can still play 1.5 but not through Steam. Play 1.5 just like you always did, through Gamespy or any other program. But why get back into 1.5 when its going to be gone soon anyway. Besides.. 1.6 Rox! LoL

I don't know what battle.net is, so I couldn't tell ya. Steam did have a lot of bugs in it at the beginning, but now they have more servers and the program itself is improving everyday. Most ppl are just not patient enough and are quick to ridicule. When HL2 and Counter-Strike Condition Zero come out, you'll be able to purchase these games through steam (not that I would) if you wanted to.
Steam and CS1.6 still have some bugs. I download an update through steam atleast once a week now, so it shows they're trying. |

it is like battle.net in most ways. It has gotten a lot quicker since it came out, and although it still has a few bugs, none have affected my gameplay. the gameplay is better now, except for people who abuse the shield(if you play you know what i mean).
full install(CS, DoD...everything) http://www.fileplanet.com/files/130000/130416.shtml just CS http://www.fileplanet.com/files/130000/130271.shtml ^dan Last edited by GSXdan; 10-14-2003 at 01:43 PM. |
