How can I access the half life console?

create a shortcut for hl.exe, right click it, select properties, in the "target" field add -console to the end of the path, now you can enjoy HL console

and if that doesnt work check your config.cfc file to make sure the ~ key is binded to the console. im not sure if it is just bind "~" "console", but i will check tonight when i get off work.

Well, there is no target field, which is odd.

Here's the console line in the config file:
bind "~" "toggleconsole"

there should be another line under that dealing with the "`", but it isnt the same as toggleconsole.... i will post it when i get home.

well looking at my config for 1.5 and 1.6 all i have is the one line

bind "~" "toggleconsole"

I was having some problems w/ 1.5 so i reinstalled it awhile ago, so the other line isnt there anymore and it still works.

are you asking for 1.5 or 1.6? im not sure if it makes a difference, but here is my target for my 1.5 shortcut:

C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -game cstrike -console -zone 4096 -dev

Whoops. I was going to the actual properties of the .exe instead of the shortcut. I got it now.

How would I check for the version?

Cheats mostly.

not really.... you can activate graphs(net_graph 3) of your connection, change your name, any option can be changed from the console, so it is very good if you know what you are doing. as for cheating, most are external programs and if you want to change options on cheats you have to exit from CS.

Well I never played CS, but most games that I have played with consoles usually were for the cheats. Sorry for spewing out of my mouth.

I've been trying to find out how to change name via console for a month now. Can you list some of the basic commands or point me to a link?
