How?
How and where do I put a game on my computer so I don't have to insert the CD every time I want to play?

Umm you have to get a program that will emulate the CD being in a CD drive.. such as Alcohol 120%. Try the 30 day trial.. their site wil tell ya the rest(or should
)PS- It will require making a "copy" of the CD onto your Harddrive so be ready for some space to be used up. I have 11 GB worth. That may not seem like to much for everyone with 120GB drives.. but its a good %'age of my 80GB drive

You can use a crack but they are illegal so its not such a good idea and also they are not very reliable and often have spyware included with them so i do not recommend it

Are those cracks illegal?
Usually its just a new EXE file that you launch a game from. So as reliable as the game would normally be and no room for spywhere.

then you can lend out your cd to friends and they can put the crack on and they won't need the cd so its illegal
i have also heard it is supposably not illegal if you do it just to make a backup copy of the cd in case it gets damaged but i am not sure if thats legal or not |

Well it depends on who ya talk too about the legality of making a backup copy... and I really don't know if you will find a free program. I would be interested in one though since my friends like how nifty it is that I never have to use my CD's... don't even know where half of them are... need to go find those
Probably in a closet with all of my other computer stuff

If you just want to play the game without needing the CD just download a No-CD patch and install it. I do this frequently so I don't have to swap CD's when I switch games. I have never seen any spyware associated with the No-CD patches.
Be aware that if you update the game, you will also need an updated No-CD patch. |

How does Virtual CD get around copy protection- or do you still need the original CD to play it?

i had a virtual CD-ROM program once that looked like "Virtual CD v5". it worked well, went around protections and the like, but didn't work properly on one game... Motocross Madness 2. MM2 is a game that i used to use to benchmark my systems/video cards and even in this case, the virtual CD-ROM program. the game used to push graphic cards and systems to the max. if something was wrong, that game would find it, and it somehow found a flaw in the virtual CD program, it just wouldn't run the game right. so this long story boils down to the program i used got around protections and worked almost flawlessly. but this was years ago and things might have/probably have changed. i don't know anything about virtual cd v5 but it looks like a winner.

Interesting, so it basically acts like a no-cd patch- It doesn't seem like it is really getting around copy protection in the sense that you couldn't burn the virtual CD image onto a CD- and have the new CD work? Is that correct?

Bingo. Nothing illegal going on, just giving more life to your CD's. The only drawback is the space it takes up. Average Cd's today are 600 mb's.

Just use the NoCds as suggested. I use them for all my games I play regularly. Saves an awful lot of disc-swapping, believe me.

Cracks are not illegal. Pirating software is illegal.

if you use NOCDs make sure you make a copy of the original file that you are replacing.

As long as you have purchased the games I don;t consider a NO CD Crack to be illegal, After all I payed for it out of my hard earned (canadian...lol) money.

What you do is make a CD-Image of the game. It will give you a .bin file and .cue file. Download Daemon Tools, It acts as a virtual CD drive and lets you mount the CD image (the .bin file) to the virtual drive. So its Simulates like putting the CD in your CD player. This is the best way ive found to do it, works everytime and have never had a problem. You can make CD-Images with about any CD-R software also including Nero.
PS. This also works for games you get off IRC....(but you didnt hear that from me and for legal reasons you must own the original game) lol
