Halo PC demo is out!
www.fileplanet.com , but from the looks of the demo there is no way I would buy the game, the performance is horrible even on this great machine, and its not even worth playing unless you can figure out how to zoom out the view, which I could not. But give it a try none the less.

Demo? I thought it was already out. Best Buy was advertizing it for $39 last week.

It is out, I am just saying that the free demo is out now too so that you can try it out before buying it. And I downloaded the demo and the performance is too horrible to play, maybe its just the demo, but from what I heard to get it to play well at all you have to do lots of screwing with settings.

Well I downloaded it, and now I gotta remember how to play it. Its been a loong time since I last played Halo. Anyways, I didn't notice any special sluggishness on my machine, ran very well actually. What settings were you running?

Full settings at 1024x768, but the thing is the graphics didnt even look good at all, that is why it got me kind of angry. And that is unnaceptable for it not to run good like that on my machine, I dont think GearBox made that great of a port, just my opinion.

Umm... actually he isn't the only one. I saw a thread someplace and people with top of the line systems were getting bad performance. The thread must have been 7 pages long. Microsoft rushed it, big suprise, and now it aint as good as it coulda been. Oh well...

I read a similar thread too but its just weird. I didnt mean that coolcps was complaining in a bad way I just find it odd like you said is top systems are having problems. I got both patches for it already and found nothing out of the ordinary. Just plain odd I tell ya.

Go to the official Microsoft site! Fileplanet is just trying ot get you to subscribe. There aren't really any lines. I am downloading it now from Microsoft at 800kb/s and no "lines".
Here's the site: http://www.microsoft.com/games/halo/downloads.asp |

I downloaded the demo and the performance is great however I keep getting "Exceptions". The game shuts down then it says "Gathering exception data". Then it asks me if I want to send an error report or not.

If your gonna play online post it on here and all the people with the demo can play together. BTW my friend told me that turning off SPECULAR can improve FPS a bit.

No idea, I zoom in all the time, no problems. The game is awesome, graphics like stated before could have been better. Anyways, you gotta be careful of who you play with. Never met so many little preteens going thru puberty...hey, I never have been called a f'in cheater in my life...just cuz I blasted that plane out of the sky, and blasted everyone for a full 10 mins, and no one could kill me...
I love CTF. I don't play in any higher then 4 players tho. Lag is terrible in higher games, and it jumps...you move, and it jumps you...while you are moving, you suddenly jump forward, or you are stuck...and you can't move...sometimes it takes a minute before it says you died...it sux. But really, its amazing for a multi...I can actually play without it being horribly fast. Its hard to die...I am sure people are programming cheats even now, but hey, I am enjoying it. I am going to get out and buy the full version soon. |

No I dont mean zoom as in zoom with a gun, i meant zoom as in FOV (field of view), if you play it on xbox you should be able to see the difference. I heard there is someway to change the FOV but I am not sure how.

This is a "heads-up".
I just installed the Halo demo from the MS site and my comp promptly crashed and then wouldn't boot except in safe mode. Checking Event Viewer gave me various VSS errors and just before it went down it flashed an error message about windows explorer. There is a link, somehow, between that and MSN explorer because every attempt in safe mode constantly brought up that page and required me to close it. I finally gave up and used System Restore which worked but when I checked Event Viewer after XP booted normally I found True Vector Engine errors as well. Something in that install, probably whatever enables multiplayer, was lethal. No Halo for me. This was a stable and trouble free system before that install. |

Just state a time on here and whoever has really good internet post their IP and we can play. I liked it alot better lanning on the XBOX though, I can't really get all the buttons how I want them. And I turned down all the effects to the bottom and it is bearable now, but I don't understand how GearBox thinks that Halo PC can compete with stuff like Battlefield, unless they patch it up and allow more players and what not. Lets play sometime tommorow!
