DamnitNvidia

Im guessing already that everyone has heard about the contrversy over how nVida based cards SUKED at giving out playable frame rates for Half-Life 2. The 5900 gave out less frame rates then the ati 9600! Thats pretty pathetic. so anyways is there anyway i can send back my nVida based card for a refund? I have a GeForce FX 5200, and a GeForce2 MX400.

You probably won't be able to get a refund for the card "sucking." The most I can see them giving you is a replacement (that is if it's still under warranty), but that isn't the reason for you wanting a new card. I wouldn't get too bummed about newer games such as HL2 running slower on nvidia based cards, as new drivers will probably alleviate at least some of the current problems. Just give it some time, the game isn't even out yet! =)

Perhaps you can sell them both and get a used gf4ti or 95/600?

He wont get much money out of selling those 2 cards but its better than just having them lie there.

The GeForce 2 is several years old. The technology that is. It was good when it was new but it won't sell for much now. I am glad I bought a Ti 4800se instead of the 5200 I almost bought.

Nvidia said that their 5900 said that they weren't when they tested half-life 2 the card gave less frames than the 9600 because they weren't running on the newest drivers! But have many more excuses do they have to make for making such crappy hardware!

you have to remember.... ATI cards run 24bit and Nvidia's run 32bit allowing ATI to acheive yes faster frame rates but less quality of a picture. so it depends on your preference. i read somewhere that the radeon9800pro gave like 375FPs (roughly) and the nvidia5900 gave 333FPS (roughly). and ive heard that the human eye cant see more than like 75fps per second anyway.

Valve and other devs have stated that the IQ difference between 24-bit and 32-bit isn't that noticeable. It's nothing going from 16-bit to 24-bit. That's why 24-bit was chosen as the minimum for DX9.

The FPS that you quote are not for HL2. For HL2, Valve showed the 9800 at 60FPS and the 5900U at 32FPS using Full DX9 specs. That's a huge difference and very noticeable.

I am still using gf2ti 64mbddr to play halo, NFS underground, C&C generals, warcraft. No slowdown at all when playing halo. Resolutions 1024x768. Though I don't know what I'm missing. Thats why I'm selling this card for US$14. Cheap? I've got a buyer who wants it now, I still need it till the end of this semester...like the next 15 weeks. And looking for a higher bid

I had a GeForce 2 as well when I first built this computer. I thought it was great I had no idea what I was missing out on until I bought the 4800. The graphics are so much better looking and smoother.

How much of a difference is there between the radeon 9700 pro and the radeon 9800 pro? Should I still go for the 9700 pro?

Nothing...really. If you compare 9800xt and 9700 pro then there is something in the 9800xt

I just bought an Asylum fx 5900 for $220 dollars and I couldn't be happier. It's plenty powerful and for the money you can't beat it. Good over clocker too. I'll worrie about Half Life 2 later. I'm sure driver updates will fix any problems.

Ask for a store credit if they don't have a no-hassle return policy. Most stores want to keep a customer.

Also...let this be a lesson in why you should be reading these forums before you buy (waggling my finger at you).

Your right, there is something in the 9800XT....a larger portion of your wallet.
