Time for me to get xbox live? Christmas woes

Hey,

Christmas time is coming up again, and I need help in deciding what I should get. This past summer I built this pc for gaming. My specs should post when Im through, but here they are anyway.

Asus a7n8x-x mobo
AMD 2500+
512 mb pc2700
Geforce 4 Ti 4800 se
Western digital 7200 rpm 40 gig hard drive w/ 8 mb cache
liteon 52x cd burner

Well, I have an xbox and ps2 as well, though I don't play my ps2 hardly at all. So, should I...

1) Sell my current ram and geforce 4 to get enough money to buy myself a gig of pc 3200 ram then ask for a radeon 9700 pro for Christmas.

2) I play football more than anything else on my xbox or computer. Should I buy a subscription of xbox live and get some xbox live compatible games, etc. rainbox six 3, counterstrike, and espn football? (I love football).

3) Or...though I dont like this idea as much...I have the ps2 internet thing (though I dont have any games for it) so should I buy games for it which I could play online?

I have a pretty fast broadband, so I'm not worried about any interet problems.

Thanks. If you have any other ideas, then please post them.

Personally, I wouldn't go for *paying* for an online subscription to game, since that alone limits the number of players that will join and if it's not a mainstream game, it usually fades away after a short time.

Why pay for xbox live when you can use Gamespy's xbox servers and play that way for free?.

Alright, well I think I'm going to rule option 3 out. So now it's between options 1 and 2. Nobody thinks I should upgrade my pc?

Do both, upgrade the PC and use gamespy to play x-box online without having to buy xbox live.

thanks

I've done it before...all you need is a hub. You take an ethernet cord and run it from the xbox to the hub, then run another ethernet cord from the hub to the ethernet card in the back of your computer. I used to have two ethernet cards in my pc. The other card connects to your broadband modem. This is how I used to do it, but now I have a wireless router---I haven't done this for over a year. There are other ways to wire it where you don't need two ethernet cards. They're shown in the help section of gamespy arcade when you click on action games/ halo (xbox).

You have to download gamespy arcade from www.gamespy.com

You also need to download gamespy's tunnel program (it's also on the website) which tricks your pc into thinking your xbox is another computer. It sounds complicated, but it's not really. Just make sure you either configure your firewall to let everything work (tunnel program and gamespy arcade), or turn your firewall off, esp. the windows xp built in firewall, it should be turned off always because it is annoying. (Esp. for this because it won't work if you don't).

The servers there aren't very good, but there is always somebody to play with at least. You need at least a broadband connection to play cause xbox doesn't accept dial-up, and you need a fast internet connection at that. I used to have a slowish broadband which only let me join games with a max of four people because then it would lag. I could host one on one games though without lag.

Hope this helps. Email me if you need any help in setting it up

---Be sure to put something in the subject line about halo xbox or something if you email me so I won't delete it thinking it's spam.

The problem I find with playing on gamespy with my xbox is there's not many games that gamespy supports. It's mainly just halo, and I have that for pc anyway. I would like xbox live for football but I also would like the radeon card...somebody help me make my mind up. Lol, this is so sad.

There's an entire list of supported xbox games on Gamespy's website, theres about 3 of them so far. NFL Fever is supported, but unfortunately not ESPN yet.

But see, thats all of them. There's only one football game, and I doubt ESPN will be on there. It could though. That would be awesome.
