Thanks for the help on the Voodoo 5500.
The graphics on my machine are now twice as good and it really doesn't seem any slower.

With your help and reading Maximum 3d Madden 2001 and Q3/Unreal look great(have 4x FSAA on).
My question is how do you find out the frame rates your game is running?
It seems that madden is a little faster while controlling the players. My only hookups seem to be very minor "hiccups" that don't happen often(5 per football game).
Any other tweaks that could help performance?

If you haven't yet, download the latest drivers from http://www.3dfx.com

There are also experimental drivers out there, employing an idea called HSR, for Hidden Surface Removal. The plan is that if you were running around in Unreal and came up on a rock, the video card wouldn't render anything behind the rock, or underneath the rock, because you wouldn't see it anyways. This of course greatly improves speed, but some people have reported weird artifacts from these drivers. I'd download both the release and beta drivers from 3dfx, and give them all a try to see what works and what doesn't.

If you're using the drivers that came with the card, definitely download new ones, as they've improved speed a bit since the original drivers that shipped with the cards.

As far as the frames per second readings, that command varies by game. For Unreal Tournament, open the console and type "timedemo 1", in Q3A I believe it's "fps_on" in the console, and I'm not sure about Madden, try a google search on that one.

I got the new drivers today. Thanks. I also downloaded the HSR drivers and was wondering, if I don't like what they do do I just install the old ones over them or do I remove them and install the others fresh. If I do remove them how do I do it.

Also I didn't see a big improvement in the Q2 Mission pack I'm playing now, but Q3 and unreal look Much better.
The article in Maximum 3D about moving the LOD to -1.5 worked perfect.
Thanks to you and the best forum on the net.

Yes, if you try the HSR drivers and want to uninstall them, just remove the Voodoo card from device manager, and reboot, when it redetects your video card, point it to the other drivers, and after they're installed, reboot again.

Quake 3 FPS

Go into the console (~).

Type : /cg_drawFPS 1 to turn on FPS.

/cg_drawFPS (deafult: 0)

It will display your framerate in the upper right of the screen. (0=off, 1=on)

Thanks Carlos, with the leagues here of late, it's been forever since I've played Q3A, been too busy playing/practicing in UT.
