well i think amd is better but the intels have a faster front side bus like intel has 800mhz and amd has as high as 533mhz or something like that. also about a year ago amd had a 1.6 ghz processor against a intel 2.0 ghz and the amd won.

Well you cant compare old P4's with old Athlon XP's. You have to compare the current technologoy. The P4's have an 800Mhz front side bus just as spider said but the Athlon XP's onoly go up to 400Mhz. The modern 2.4Ghz P4 with an 800Mhz fsb can outperform an Athlon XP 3200+ in most benchmarks.

Why bother with someone elses synthetic benchmarks, they will declare whomever paid the most money or provided the most free kit the winner anyway. Let your personal experience speak for it's self and you'll soon "Think Different"

Benchmarks, as well as most other tests, can be manipulated in favor of brand A or B. Buy what you want.

No, what we are saying, is:
Buy whatever amd or intel you can afford, thats your comp, your money, thye both perform the same.

Basically what I am saying is, both brands are good and will do what you need. The rest is all personal preference.

Realistically, if you did do something silly like order a similar AMD and Intel system to send back one... you would probably have a hard time deciding as without synthetic benchmarks to produce a number... you probably wouldn't notice a difference.

"There are three kinds of lies: Lies, d*** lies, and statistics."

I go by real-world performance, not so arbitrary benchmark that can be manipulated very easily. For instance, say brand A gets a score of 500 and brand B gets a score of 800. Woo, so that means brand B is better, right?

Not always. You have to factor in that benchmarks are often a stress test, and your machine will most likely not be running the hardware in that fasion.

But what about the huge point difference? Again, that always doesn't mean much. It could mean that a video card B can process 1GB of data half a nanosecond faster than video card A. No big deal.

Another factor is the relyability of the product. Is it going to break down a month after you get it? In the case of a Gainward GF4 Ti4200, yes. It benched pretty good, but on most retail cards, they had leaking capacitors that made the card fail.

There's nothing better than your own experiece with hardware. Then you can tell what works well and what doesn't.

Hrm...maybe I should just write an article
