What should I get for christmas?

I've been out of the gaming scene for about a year, as I've really just not had any time to play computer games. I've even cancelled my subscription to PC gamer.

However, as christmas approches, I was struck by one fact: I have no idea what the hell I want. I have no earthly desire for anything, as everything's either far to expensive, or unecessary, or I just won't use it. So, I figure I should fall back on my trusty ally, gaming. So, PCmech community, what's been going on in the world of gaming?

To give you a taste of my taste in games:

My favorite game of all time: Alpha Centauri
other excellent games:
AOE II
Civilization III
Caeser III
Rise Of Nations
Railroad Tycoon II
Arcanum

Mediocre Games
SimCity 3
The Sims

I used to love this style of game, but not anymore

As you can tell, I'm more into strategy, with a bit of RPG thrown in. Good games in these genres would be good. Thanks.

An old game I used to love playing is Descent 3. I think you can mail order a copy for about 7 bucks.

Do you like RPGs? I ask because I saw Arcanum in your list.

If so, you may like to buy the gold version of Neverwinter Nights, and the Game of the Year version of Morrowind. The full original games, plus the expansion packages. A bang for the buck. I wanted to buy the Morrowind GotY edition but ran outta money.

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Jedi Academy actually got me away from BF1942/DC for awhile. My wife bought me Knights for Christmas, but it's still in the box. I can't wait to try it out, it has some really high ratings.
