Question

I just built a new system with the Radeon ATI video card. Something strange happens when loading the Arc demo that comes the cd... it takes forever to load. I'm talking ~10 minutes. The load bar crawls across the screen. I downloaded the latest video/mobo drivers and even reinstalled the Arc demo.

Why is that taking so long to load? After finally loading it works ok . If you have this card, how long does it take to load on your system?

I also installed Quake 3 (retail), No One Lives Forver (demo), the new EA sports bike (demo), and the MAD ONION benchmark program. These all load just fine.

System specs: Asus A7V mobo, Thunderbird 1 gig, ATI Radeon 64 DDR, 2 x 128 Micron PC133, IBM 8 gig (fresh install of W98)...

The Arc Demo is a very large program. Refer to this ATI page for more info. My brother has a Radeon and as I recall, it took several minutes to load the demo.

Yes, mine takes a while too and sometimes the system appears to be locked up.

This demo did not work for me....kicked me back out even with 384mb's of ram in win2k...but then win2k isn't listed as one of supported OS's. Will try it again since I disabled taskmanager 3dmark started working so maybe this will too.

Well I just tried it out in win98 and it only took about a 1 minute or so to load! weird. I'm running 384mb's of ram...so I don't know if that makes a difference, but for me it loaded real speedy in win98.
