Why am i lagging?

Iv just played Battlefield online and got onto a server and i looked and saw that my Ping (connection) was 195-205 that is the highest iv seen it and i was kicked from the server.. i try again on a server that i regulary play on and it too was 200ish.. I normally have it from 60- 120 so why has it suddenly gone up?
I dont have any other windows or applications running at the same time so that cant be the problem
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Other users affect your ping too. If they have a cheap connection , say like cable , they slow everyone down, thats why certain ppl get kicked.look for a server that has a ping around 50 or so. and when you notice some slow downs press TAb and check the other players pings, then youll understand what I mean.

well i would guess the hardware also counts because the info the server needs to show you in the game has to be processed by your computer first then sent to the server and then sent back then processed again by you computer

Ouch... I have 1.5 mbit cable and never had a problem lacking!

Anyways. Propain is right. Other users do affect your ping rate.

But usually only if they have a connection that is much lower. Like 56K modem dial-up even some of the low packages for cable and DSL. Even the time of the day can affect your ping and internet. If it is early evening when a lot of people are home checking emails and kids are on the computer playing games over the internet or just exploring it can clog up a lot of bandwidth or hog it from you so to speak.

"Connection problems detected" box pops up, waits like that for about 30 seconds and kicks me out. I've typically got top 2 or 3 highest ping in any server.

what kind of servers are you on? go on real dedicated servers, lotsa kids host games but their machines arent up to par. and they hit ESC to change stuff around and that when ya get connection probs cause the host is suxors. Look in the game title and it says if its a real 1942 server or some jobloes. cheers

Server hardware and it's connection are the main reasons behind lag. A slow CPU, low RAM, and 56k connection on a server will lag everyone!
