HL2 for free, eh? Where did you hear this.

I know it will give you Condition Zero when if it's ever released.

ummm I think you read it wrong the way I understood it you could either get steam right now or you could get a copy of hl2 when it came out.... I went for the hl2 cause I already have steam.... I agree it is great.

I could be wrong

Steam is basically an interface for Half-life and it's mods ei.counterstrike. It lets you chat with your friends and see and join the games they are in. It is just an awsome program if you like cs,dod and the other mods.

Yeah and it completely eliminates the possibility of playing said games on a lan where an internet connection isn't present, and also makes a game designed to run on a P2 400 require a 1ghz + CPU.

Is that offer for Steam or Half-Life in general, because Valve is offering Steam for free off the internet.

-Download and install the STEAM client.
-Create an account (account name is your email address)
-From main menu choose "Games"
-You'll then see: "My Games" vs "Available games"
Choose one of the games from the VPP (e.g. Half-Life)
-It will request that you enter in your CD key (i.e. enter in your Half-Life® 2 key here)
-All the VPP games will then move from "Available games" to "My games". Half-Life® 2 will magically appear here also when available.
-Select the game that you'd like to start playing, and the content will then stream to your computer
Its a offer for HL2 and "Premier Pack" that is sent to you through steam. I know you can get steam free but not the games. Anyways, free or not I think steam is the best gaming system, all the games are in 1 place, it makes it so easy. Plus it makes sure you have all the right files before you join a game, DL's them if you dont have them. Also has built in anti-cheat module, no 3rd party programs needed.

most of the games on steam arn't single player anyway so it doesn't really matter.Steam used to be free, but now it asks you for a cdkey when you try to play one of the games for the first time

Because you need the original Half-Life or a retail version of Counter-Strike or Day of Defeat

I'll agree, steam is great! All the game you play on steam are not 1st person games. You can install and play the original Half-Life single player w/out steam.

As for the CDkey, you only need one. If you have the original HL then use that CDkey to play CS, DoD, and TFC. In the future you'll be able to buy HL2 over steam and download it. I won't be doing that but its not a bad feature, the same goes for CZ.

Every game you play online (ie. COD, MOHAA, BF1942, UT2003) requires you to own the game and have it installed, if they didn't who would buy them?

Funny, every CS update drives some players away, but there are always new ones. I remember the 1.3 > 1.4 update. Everyone had something to grip about.

im disappointed with Steam for two reasons (I play CS only)

to the best of my knowledge, you have to upgrade to CS 1.6 to play --> you can no longer use bots in your internet/LAN games

Not only can you not use bots, but as posted, you can't play on a non-existent LAN (w/ bots of course)--- which is freakin annoying when I'm home from college on a blazing 56K connection to this novel invention that i like to call the "internet"

peace guys
