GAH!! Why does Valve build hype for thier games just to delay them. I wouldn't be suprised if HL2 and Condition Zero were pushed into 2005 >

Shame nVidia got so upset about their performance, that they forced a re-work of the GFX Engine to make nVidia GPU's perform better.

They are delaying it because Nvidia made a rubbish line of cards?

plus every time they delay it they get a of free publicity, because people discust the delay, so they also discust the game.

Another Sept release? Valve must really want to release the game in September. But don't get your hopes up. It may be pushed back again...

P.S.: I in some regards hope that they never release DNF so that it will pass into myth and folklore and will forever be referenced as a release date to other games that do not have a release date, i.e. Half Life 2 will come out when DNF ships. In other words, its gonna be awhile.

I'm starting to lose interest. The anticipation has been so keen that the game can't help but to dissapoint (much like Unreal 2)- especially 9 months from now. There is no dearth of good FPS games available.

No one can say how long something lasts. The technoloigcal advances are what determines that. From past examples, id say that it will last you longer than jsut HL2. Thats a really strong card right now.

Prew... Prew... Prew. Come on now, you didn't expect that I would let that one slide. Going to gamerankings.com and throwing out the highest and lowest scores you get an average of 85%. That's right... 85%! Last time I checked that was a great score. No one gets 100% and a 90% is reserved for all but the greatest and most innovative games that everyone will remember forever. Duke Nukem 3D got a 88% at Gamespot and Doom 1 had a 90%. Warcraft got a 93%. But I'm not here to shout out numbers, but rather to tell you that Unreal 2 wasn't a disappointment and definately wasn't a bad game. While one game can't be everything to everyone and yes I agree with you that Unreal 1 was more revolutionary than Unreal 2, Unreal 2 by reviews alone tell a different story than what you give. Unreal classic has been reported (and accused) that it combined elements from other games into one and the same can be said for Unreal 2. Yet Unreal 1, I believe, is much more respected in the gaming community than Unreal 2. But what is wrong with Unreal 2? If I like it and you don't.... and then you state that you probably won't like Half Life 2, whats next? Are you to keep putting down games because of YOUR high expectations?

Now I'm not here to bash or make you upset, I think I just needed to rant. Which gets me thinking, every game that I like, every game that I think is awesome, I have played to "try out" with little or no anticipation beforehand. I loved Unreal 1, I like Warcraft 2 and 3, Ghost Recon and Call of Duty, and more recently Max Payne 2 and Prince of Persia. What do all of those things have in common with me? I knew of them and their release pretty much right before I bought the game. And in the case of Warcraft 3, I knew it was being made but didn't wait up all night for it to be released, didn't expect it to do or be anything. I didn't care when it was released or that it had been delayed. And because of that, I feel I liked it even more.

So my theory from here on out is to not wait and count the days to a games release and read all of a games spoilers, but to play and enjoy the games I have now and those that have been recently released. When HL2 is released, that will be the time to get all excited over the game and to not sleep because you want to play another multiplayer game with your friends. Don't kill yourself now over it. So why worry? Just put it on the backburner and wait for it to get done cooking.

Man o' man, did I write all that? Geez

Sept 24 2004. I think There will be like R 9900XT and a FX6900U. All the better. Graphic cards cycle rate are around 6 months. So by march, we will get something new to replace the 9800XT and the 5950U.

I'm just worried that if they release it too far behind, the game will have lack luster graphics, and gameplay.
I want Halo 2 or any FPS while waiting. When is N.O.L.F 3 coming out?

BTW, did someone REALLY stole the codes or is this some kind of lame excuse for a further release date( I don't think Russians had anything to do with the code-yeah I know they are selling HL2 there).

Now simmer down Dragon. Actually, gamerankings.com reports the average rating as 80%, not 85%
http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/919298.asp

And the game was a dissappointment, especially after all the hype- heck, it didn't even have a MP. The AI was weak (the enemy just ran straight at you), the cut scenes were laughable (remember the head gal with the little pony tail and skimpy outfit (Aida, but the marine pronounced it Ada)?

And as Gamespot said: "It doesn't have Halo's vehicles and clever AI, Serious Sam's over-the-top action and spectacular boss battles, No One Lives Forever 2's inspired level design, or Medal of Honor's memorable set pieces. As shooters go, it's competent but for the most part unremarkable."

But my point is more that when something is overly hyped, its hard to live up to expectations.

Well for gamerankings, like I said, I threw out the top and bottom scores and redid the average. But at least we can agree on one thing, and that is the last point that you made.

Last month would of been the best possible time to release HL2, since it would of dominated the gaming industry during Christmas.

September could be a better time for sales, if it was released this spring Valve would have to compete with Doom 3 and UT2k4.

The problem with constantly delaying games and making them appear as some kind of "Project of the Century" is that it makes peoples expectations to high, look at games like Unreal 2. Sure they some people liked it and sales were okay, but it didn't become the mother of all games like it was hyped up to be.

Grr, must everyone rag on Unreal2. Speaking of, what other games haven't lived up to expectations?

I'd have to put Diablo 2 into that category-and also Red faction 2.

On the other hand, Serious Sam 2 and Quake 2 more than met expectations.

Quake 2 had an awesome soundtrack and um... was a decent game. I didn't play it until after it had been out for awhile and by then I wasn't too impressed. I skipped Quake 2 and played Unreal classic for years, literally. I still play it now every once in awhile. Quake 1 was a great game. Quake 3 came out when UT did, so guess who I sided with and guess which one I played? Yeah...
Aliens vs Predator 2 was pretty good and hacking and slashing in Jedi Academy with dual sabers is always fun.

I doubt I'm the only one that will be too engrossed in BF Vietnam to ever notice HL2 being put off. I'd just about bet the farm HL2 won't see the light of day before this time next year.

That takes me back. I remember playing Unreal for the first time and being very much immersed in the story and the incredible, for the time, graphics. The levels were truly inspired.

I still play Quake II though (its the only game that will play on my laptop). Its fun to see how fast you can get through the levels while using only one gun (i.e., railgun).

Prew, have you played the "FarCry" demo? Think if someone redid Unreal classic with that engine.. wholly cow that would be sweet. The sky and water effects alone rock.

I personally could careless if HL2 ever comes available, there are some pretty games out there now, such as Freedom Fighters, Call of Duty, etc... Usually with all this kind of hype when the game does come available, it's usually a little bit of a disappointment. As far a game rankings I usually take them in consideration, but I don't believe in them 100% for it's just like going to the movies - sometimes the critics are wrong in their review.

I'll download it (Farcry).

Hey Strider- what video card are you using? I couldn't get Freedom Fighters to run with my 9500 Pro and SB Live- it randomly crashed- but what I could play of it I thought it was a real good game.
