Play games with anti-virus switched on?
Hi there,
I would like your help to answer this question, do you leave your antivirus switched on when you play games, be it online or offline? I would understand it if you had to leave it on when you are online because you would be vulnerable to virus attacks. I'm asking because I switch off my anti virus software when I play games but I don't go online. I play single-player games. I did this to free up memory. I have 256mb DDRAM. The game performance is not affected in either way, if the anit-virus software is off or on. Is it advisable to switch off antivirus software when you play game in order to free up memory or avoid software conflicts? Cheers, Jova (edited for typos) |

I always turn my a\v off when installing programs to avoid any corruption. But when playing games it stays on, esp. since it make no difference in performance for me.

I turn it off when playing online games, as it effects loading times when a map changes. As long as you remember to turn it on after you're done gaming, you should be ok.

A year ago, when I signed up for Earth&Beyond and had trouble, I was assured that just switching off my firewall and my AV would be the solution.
I nearly quit the game on the spot. Don't ever do it. I know of no game that requires it and if you're having connection or lag problems do the homework to find out the real causes ( in my case it was Verizon messing up ). |

The only problem I've had is when autoupdate is turned on and a window popped up when playing a game. Of course, just changing preferences in the AV fixed this.

Leave it on, you should never have to shut down your a/v program in order to play a game.

I never turn it off. I haven't found it to slow down a game yet. I have 1GB RAM.

I have enough CPU power and RAM to leave it on. No difference to me when it's off, so I just leave it on. I do close everything else down that I don't need, like my weather program, statbar, and all my IM programs.
