I was reading a post over at TTLG about Thief 3 posted by a beta tester.
He was getting paid $50 to try out the Xbox version. He said as much as an NDA would allow but then he finished up with this post script : Unrelated to my thief 3 expierence, I did exchange a few words with an Eidos guy about developing PC games around console technical limitations and how it just makes the games suck. He told me PC games simply don't sell, Console games do - and it looks like the new trend for them. Completely lame I keep hoping they're not going to do to Thief 3 what they did to DE 2, but it's fading. Someone needs to rethink the business model. They make sequels of pc games that sell well and make them lots of money ( they don't sell ?!!?) but they turn them into console ports that will not run well on pcs. There is a further irony, it appears that DE 2 did not sell as well as Eidos hoped, either as pc or as console.

Well, IMO they aren't concentrating very hard on making GOOD console games either. The last Tomb Raider game for the PS2, The Angel of Darkness, was so full of bugs it wasn't even funny. Bad camera angles, disappearing walls, walking off a ledge and being set on the floor below with no damage from the fall, and oh yeah, if you turned Lara just right while she was backed up to a wall, the camera angle looked as if it was inside her head. You actually saw the BACKSIDE of her eyeballs! In my view, Eidos isn't a very good gaming company period anymore.

Does anyone even like DE2? DE1 was good but haven't heard too much from DE2.

This is a *do the damn job right!* thing. The pc and console versions would share stuff like the story, voice acting, artwork and sound/music. Then they'd have to go their seperate coding ways. I'm sure there'd be things you could do on either platform that the other couldn't/shouldn't duplicate and, obviously, the mod tools would be a pc thing. In what way would that be more expensive than having the game flop in both markets ? Eidos is giving us an example of being *pennywise and pound foolish*. |

I hate consoles more and more with every day that passes.
Interplay closed Black Isle Studios and fired all the ppl working there. Fallout 3 and Baldur's Gate 3 were killed in the onslaught.
