GOLD edition games?

What is the difference between "gold" edition games when they come out?
Like Rainbow 6 has a gold edition. But the levels all look like the same levels that were in the original game.
Does it play better?
thanks

sometimes, gold edition games come with goodies, but for the most part, i think it's a ploy to try and squeeze every last penny out of a product.

Instead of buying the original and expansion packs seperately and maybe paying 30$, you can buy the gold edition which has both already together for 20$. Nothing new about it, just convience.
