game problems with Windows XP
I am playing an online game called The 4th Coming. It's a older MMPORG D&D game, but it's worth the time. Anyways, there is a slight problem with the game that no one can figure out what the problem might be.
When I play the game for awhile and I press any one of the keyboard keys the game will close out (crash) to my desktop but I am still logged onto the game server. In that minute or so that I still logged into the game I will of course die and be transported back to a safe place. This problem doesn't happen all the time, the problem happens at random. So it's hard to pinpoint what's causing the problem. Since it's a older game, the game is run in Windows 98/ME compatibility mode. The company that made the game don't provide support with the exception if you have bought a game license to run a game server. The company that runs the server can't provide any solutiuons to the problem. I know, you may say it's time to play a different game. You know the old sayin, good things never die. If anyone has any solutions please let me know. This problem has been happening for awhile. Thank you for the time. My computer is a HP 2.6ghz P4, 512 DDR ram, 120 gig hard drive, DVD-RW, CDRW, CD-Rom, Nvidia Geoforce 440 MX 128 mb video card, Creative Audigy 2 sound card, Windows XP Home Thanks Cheers |

Do you get any error messages? Do you have anything overclocked? Do you have sufficent cooling? Any problems with any other game or anything else in your system?

In such a case where hardware isn't at fault, and I want to play that particular game, I would go to the trouble of building a 98/ME box to play the game on, with a firewall or router in front of it. Just about anything would probably do, even with onboard sound and grafix. 128megs ram would be more than enough.

Sorry it took so long to get back, been real busy with work.
I think I have traced the problem to the modem. I did a test and when I switched back to an older modem the problem doesn't happen. I am currently using a Zxytel 645m modem. It seems when I play the game and get a really bad lag spike, the modem crashes the game on Windows XP. Is going to try and reinstall the Firmware to it and see if that works. |
