GeForce FX5600. Why so low?

I built my sister a PC based around an ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard, an AthlonXP 2600+ processor, a GeForce FX5600 graphics card and 512MB of PC2700 memory.

I can't understand why the system returns an incredibly low score of just over 5,000 in 3D Mark 2001. Any ideas?

I have a similar specced system with the only major difference being that I have an older and slower graphics card yet I get over 8,000 with my system.

May I add, the system also has a 19" LCD monitor.

Oh, one last question, what speed does the AthlonXP 2600+ "Barton" processor run at?

TIA.

Ok Details for that processor are as follows:
2600+ = 2.083Ghz* >| =6.25x |=333 Mhz

So the should be running at 2.083Ghz
Have you got the correct/latest drivers installed for the 5600?
What version of directX have you got installed?
Have you tried running 3D mark 2003? too see if true potential shows there?
When playing games on the system if there any noticable 'lags'?

Hi Craig,

The processor is running at 1.9 GHz (with the multiplier set automatically at 11.5). I thought the "Barton" version with 512MB of L2 Cache ran slightly slower than the equivalent "Thoroughbred" AthlonXP's??? On bootup the processor is correctly reported as an "AthlonXP 2600+".

To respond to your other questions.
(1) I am using the drivers which came with the graphics card.
(2) DirectX 9.
(3) No, not yet.
(4) Only tried Halo which runs slower than on my system.

Yes you are correct. The thoroughbred's with the equivelent rating eg, 2600+ . do have slightly higher clock speeds. as shown in my information on AMD chipsets thread

http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=85596

For your processor this is what should be the scenario....
6.25*2 = 12.5
So if you set the multiplier at 12.5 the correct speed should be shown. as it is with your multiplier, it will run at 1.909Ghz which is correct for that multiplier(11.5x)

what exact card is it? although it shouldnt make much difference as the score should never be that low with any 5600, but humour me, also do you have AA anf AF on? turn them off in Nvidia control panel if you do
