Any truly realistic military games?

Most of the strategy games in the market are extremely simplified for exceptions of few I cant remember. possibly Europa Universalis or some turn bsed games.

In ROTC in Berkeley they do military game strategy simulations, I dont even know if they use computers, but the thing is that those should be more realistic.

Do you know of any extremely realistic strategies. Which are turn based, and on macro level? Of course in these kind of games people should be only statistics.

http://www.americasarmy.com/ I know of some fun ones ei:1942 but AA is the most realistic I know of. Maybe try some Tom Clancy games too like GuostRecon and Rainbow6 .

i don't think there is anything to the degree of realism that you are looking for in the game market. there might be something out there, but i doubt it would be up to par.

you are looking for something tactical yet logistical? as you said, the military is probably the only people interested enough in creating these kinds of simulations. they are just too dull and boring for the typical mindless fps gamer. but, then again, the army usually opts for war games instead of simulators. "you never hear about soldiers and their proud simulators" to paraphrase down periscope.

battlefield 1942 is not ultra realistic, but it does the trick for me, especially the desert combat mod

I dont know of any real strategy games that have this level of realism, but the most realistic military game i've played so far was operation flashpoint. you start out as a simple soldier, but along the game you become commander, fly choppers, platoon commander, .... . after the game came out, it was rewritten for military training (called project vbs1 or something)
(i havent played AA so i dont know about that. ). there's a new game going to come out called soldner which sould also have this level of realism. i read something about flashpoint 2 too once but i dont know if this will ever come out.

hope this can help.

i would have to go with the rainbow six series as far as realistic games go. you cant take 50 bullets till you die, its mostly one or two shot kills. you assemble a team and infiltrate enemy compounds, in the meanwhile controlling your whole team. there are 64 guns to choose from, all real to life military weapons. i love rainbow six: ravenm shield.....ive never been so addicted to a game since MOHAA.

America's Army V2.0 is THE ONLY realistic one out there. SOCOM is pure crap in comparison.

it is a free download from the U.S. army. http://www.americasarmy.com

Agree with sleepypost.
The game insist on Army 'small unit' tactics.
Come in "Rambo style" and die.
If you're aiming for an infantry combat unit ( the gossip is that there will be even more scenarios ) this will actually show/teach you what's expected.

Rise of Nations, Age of Empires (old tech), and America's Army are the most realistic I have played. I don't know if that's what you are looking for or not.

When Full Spectrum Warrior comes out, it might actually be more realistic over America's Army. All we can do is wait and see really.

The weapons and tactics in America's Army are the most realistic I've seen yet. (And I just back from Iraq not long ago)

It was developed by the Army to show new recruits what to expect. Weapon sounds are actual digitized sounds from the weapons themselves, and the capabilities are accurate.

Call of Duty is still more fun to play, though........

I'm personally in the Australian Defence Force, and I'd have to same the game for my money was Op Flashpoint. It's extremely realistic, you use team tactics, one good shot can kill etc. We've actually been testing a mod of it lately which is intended to teach team tactics to the military in ground movement, and it was excellent.
I've played all the games mentioned above, and some I'd agree with, some not. Call of Duty is OK as far as it goes, except that you get too much life. AA is alright

Jaggannath, that mod you mention, might it be called project vb1 or something like that? i remember in the months after the release of op flashpoint they were talking about a military(training) project based on op flashpoint, i saw some very early screenshots of it once. Is it much better than the original flashpoint? It is defenately one of my all time favourite games.

good to know that project worked out for them. It can only help to make em improve for flashpoint 2. A friend told me that the same team is also helping to build a game called Söldner: secret wars

weren't the developers or part of the developers paratroopers themselfves ?
I guess it almost has to be to make it such a good game.

If you want very realistic combat, mouth watering and fluent graphics that will give you a boner for a week, you should play Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield and its expantion pack Athena Sword. Now this is a squad-base game, so give it a try!

This game is very good. even the recoil of the semi-auto matic rifles and hand guns will affect the outcome of every fight. you could also play on line at Ubi.com

FPS I would go with Americas Army. Great realism but is online multiplayer only.

Strategy I would go with blitzkrieg. But its only WW2 era.

And for a blend Silent Storm is a good turn-based strategy squad sized infantry game. But it gets cheesy and unrealistic at the end. It also is WW2 era, with scifi elements at the end.

I hope Rainbow Six won't give you a boner for a week...but you should play it because it's a great game. America's Army is good too, and so is Battlefield 1942. Battlefield isn't extremely realistic, but it's the most fun you're ever going to have playing an army game online. Nothing even compares to it's massive fast paced battles occuring in the air, on land, and in the water all at the same time. Or, you can sneak around and set up your own little sniping spot and just pick people off. It's the ultimate WWII game. Plus Vietnam just came out as well, so you can have the same fun with more current weaponry. The Desert Combat mod for 1942 is pretty good too, changing everything to modern day weapons and vehicles, including humvees, black hawks, and the terrorist pickup truck. (I like the pickup truck).
