Game Install / Uninstall Problems
My friend was installing Prince of Persia and it encountered an error half way thru and closed the install. He's got all the shortcuts and the game stuff in the programs folder but he cant play and he cant uninstall. and, if he deletes that folder, the comp still thinks its installed and wont uninstall or reinstall. When he goes to control panel "add/remove programs" Prince of Persia is listed but when remove program is clicked he gets this error : >setupdll\setupdll.cpp (439). Ive googled, dogpiled, micrsofted, that error and cant find anything about it. He tried using regedit to remove it from the registry and restart his comp but no luck. He has deleted it from the start menu, the program files folder, the registry, the desktop and it still wont let him uninstall / reinstall and gives the above error when trying to uinstall it from "add/remove programs" tab. Also under the "add/remove programs" beside Prince of Persia it says 5.8mb so it must be on his comp somewhere and causing this problem. Any suggestions?
Thanx, Noc

Well if you have deleted all entries to it in the registry then you should be able to reinstall. Maybe there are still some entries you missed.

As far as looking in the reg you'll have to search under just 'prince' or 'ubisoft'. Maybe if you can find an add/remove folder it may be in there. i don't know, just suggestions.
Looking online it points to the installation shield or java vm. Has your friend gone to windows update recently and fully updated? Does he have the latest java? |

He did the recommended registry searches and found nothing. He ran the updates, still no luck. Any more suggestions are welcome.

Does your friend have System Restore ?
If so he need only roll back to the last restore point before the game ionstall. After that he has reason to check over the game cds for scratches and to check his system for things like ram and hard disk problems as well as defrag the drive and close any programs, like his AV, that were running in the background when he tried the install. Then he can try again. If he gets the same problem then he should exchange the game disk for a new set. |

Best bet is to (you've done most of this, but just to check :P)...
Try again to click Add/Remove Delete program folder Delete everything you can find related to it Get the fabulous RegCleaner from http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-dow...regcleaner.exe And search for Prince of Persia and the game manufacturer etc and Remove Selected after you've ticked the ones YOU ARE SURE ARE FOR THAT GAME (Don't go deleting anything you're not 100% sure about, and don't come crying if you remove the wrong thing!) Then reboot and try again. You should find that Add/Remove will then say something along the lines of "Already uninstalled, would you like to remove this entry from the list?" Click yes and reinstall Good luck! Jim
