My 9800 Not benching well?

Hey all,

Well i was running Aquamark and i was scoring really really low with my Ti4200 so i bought myself a new video card.

Well now i am running a 9800 128MB.

My score is up now to 15k from 9k but i feel like there is still somthing wrong, why are my scores so low compared to the other people with the same setup as me?

What is your processor scoring and what is your video card scoring? Are your drivers up to date? Do you have the AGP set to 8x?

my 9800 is a PRO.

umm login screen really? strange.

Anyways using catalyist 4.2 drivers
AGP 4x (mobo only supports 4x)
Gfx score = 1,9ooish
CPu Score = 5000ish
Total score 15,500ish.

Over people with same setup scoring 30-50K. when i only score 15k

Alright I ran it and I got a 41,000 stock and a 45,000 with a minor overclock.

With stock scores I get:
gfx= 5,500
cpu= 8,000

On a 9800 Pro and a Pentium 4 2.6c and 1 gig of ram in dual channel.

Since we are running the same video card you would think our video card score would be the same. So theres gotta be something wrong there. I dunno what it could be, try using the omega drivers? What kind of cpu do u have? Do you happen to know what individual scores you were getting with the ti-4200?

edit: nm i see your cpu in your sig.

thats really low for a 9800, do you have AA and AF enabled in the ATi control panel? you should be getting about 40,000

Yea, guys. My system has been benching really low ever since i built it. Do you think i have a bad motherboard? or could it be bad ram?

My CPU is Oc'ed to 2.66ghz (which is higher than my sig says).

When i had the ti4200 i was getting like

950 gfx
3000 cpu.

Total score 9000ish

Well, this thread got my curiousity going! I d/l'd it and tried it out. I got:

5496
6639
-------
38,704

On a stock 2700+ with a 9800 Pro AIW.

I'm new to AquaMark but there seems to be some variables, like which version, and some setting choices. I ran version 3 with "out-of-the-box" settings.

What version and settings are you running, Bushtree?

Also, I never benched well in 3dmark 2001 either with this build. I havent tried 2001 with the 9800 yet though.

I think its somthing esle in my system like a bad mobo or ram? Could i be either of those?

I dont know how but your cpu and video card are both posting scores much lower than they should be. Im not sure how or why. Is your motherboard bios up to date? I cant think of anything at the moment, bad ram wouldnt effect the video card score, im thinking something in your bios is set wrong maybe.

for giggles, I set my card to AGP 4x from 8x and retested. Just like imbest123 said, it didn't make much of a diff:

5403
6637
38,190 (down from 38704 above)

no 4x to 8x wouldnt make much of a difference, but 4x to 2x makes a big dfference. But if this were the case it still wouldnt effect his cpu score. Is everything in your bios correct?

How much ram do you have? what speed? what brand? Although I doubt this is the problem.

Yea, as far as i know everything in my BIOS is correct. I will try downloading the latest BIOS from Asus and flashing it but i think i have the latest already. Not sure.

I have 512MB Ram (PC2700) KingMax (Mabey problem?)

And i am 100% sure i am running 4x agp not 2x.

ANy other ideas? Ill Flash the Bios tonight.. Hopefully that fixes somthing.. I guess ill have to read up on how the flash the bios first though lol as i dont know how to hehe.

Have you double checked by pulling up ATI's control panal, then clicking on Display Settings, then choosing the SmartGART tab? There is shows the current speed, and all other choices.

Ignore my last post as I've found out that the 9800 series runs only in 4x or 8x. The 9700 series can also run in 2x.

I know the fast write option in SmartGart gives some people some trouble, try turning that off. There may also be a fast write option in each application. Also, try setting all 3D options to their defaults.

This probably doesn't mean much to you but I've always had low scores with several tests on my video card until I switched over to XP.

Would you try uninstalling the newest drivers and installing the drivers 2 updates ago? (Just to see what happens)

Ermm, Im already on XP

As for fast write. I have tried it with it both on and off. No difference

Ahh. This makes me mad as i spent $200 for a new video card and my little brothers 9700 (OEM) has better graphics than my 9800 pro does while gamming.

I've never used AquaMark, by my 9800 Pro weighs in at 11,900 in 3Dmark01. Worth the $300?....negative.

haha...$500 here. I consider my purchases carefully and can always live with them though. It's computer hardware, it will all be obselete in 6 months. You can't have it as a hobby and make "wise investments."

I don't know if my mark is all that good or not, but like Iniamyen sez, it's hard to have it both ways. I'm pleased and I look at it as how much better it is over the vid card it replaced, which was an old GF 3 card.

I benched my 9800 back when I first got it and on Aquamark I get a lil over 43000 and with 3DMark01 scores like a 18250 which is about what my 9700 PRO will do tweaked and OC'd.
