Talking Far Cry: demo 2...

The latest edition of PCGamer just arrived at my place and it's got yet another level, now optimized to run correctly, of Far Cry.
I won't give anything away, but borrow it from a friend if you don't have the magazine.
There is also another demo of Syberia 2, which I'll be checking out as well.
On this Wednesday, life is good.

So it's a different level than the one released to the public earlier this year? I haven't even tried it yet, I figured it was just the same level. Thanks for the heads up.

Btw: How's your computer handling things Pam? I've checked some reviews and that mobo is looking better and better everytime I look at it.

I'm doing the best to keep a smug smile off my face.
If this is budget stuff then I'm all for it ( bless the reviewers who spotted it ).
Meanwhile, the new demo is perfect, Far Cry is getting pre-ordered by me.

I find this demo even better graphically then the other one. It has a nice evening sky and the walls in the caves look very sharp. This is definately going to be a pretty game.

It always takes me awhile to get used to the shooting/aiming of the game. I have the mouse sensitivity up all the way but it still seems slow and hard to aim. I have everything set on high with my ti4200, maybe that's why. It runs pretty well though.

I installed that card on alot of other folks PCs and it's still doing the job, but I think it's time to upgrade for newer games ( check your wallet first ).
I got my 9500pro in Dec. 02 and it's just now coming into it's own.
I do have another hardware upgrade in mind, more ram!!!

Is this the same bonus level (Research) that was released over the weekend?

I wonder if they fixed the 9800 Pro incompatibility issue with the new demo. Is it for download anywhere or only on the disc with the magazine?

Yeah I'm waiting until April/May when the new video cards come out so that the high-end cards now will be even cheaper.

What do you mean that the 9500 Pro is coming into it's own? That it runs games pretty well? Just wondering b/c all the talk I've heard lately has been about the 9600 and 9800 models.

As far as the RAM upgrade Pam, I highly recommend it. I have a gig of RAM and I never have to worry about what I have running or about running too many programs. I usually have somewhere in 600MB's-free range. I never have to worry about having enough RAM for games. It's a great feeling. Plus you get bragging rights (something HAL would love I'm sure lol).

The card is standing up to anythihg the DX9 games throw at it.
No, obviously it's not going to beat a 9800XT, but you can still do 4XAA and 8XAF and get the framerates you need that a 9600 won't deliver.
ATI really did over-build this card.
I read the specs and said "wow!".
Yes, of course I will need a new card by next year, but this 9500 gets nominated for the hall of fame.
May all mainstream cards match it for their generations.

I missed that one so I'm not sure.
What I do know is that the demo is exclusive to PCGamer so I'm guessing the answer is no.
This demo is new.

It's my understanding that the level was extracted from the new demo and runs on the original demo

Yeah I know, I browsed through the boards back when the demo came out and I couldn't belive that peeps were having probs with the 9800, but then again I was one of the few who didn't have a problem with Windows ME.

I'm sure you have dug around at Rage3d forums for a possible fix.

I haven't played anythihg that really stressed this card, not even when it was running in a board with 1.4 GHz t-bird.
I was wondering if that was just me ( vintage games ) but then the HL2 benches came out in Sept. and it still held it's own.
The year-end roundup at Tom's told the same story and the Far Cry demo just purrss....
ATI did an amazing job with this card ( I also know why they discontinued it, which is why you're not hearing much about it. ) and I realize I'm good for the next year at least, if not more.
I've had it for more than a year now and it was a good investment of $200.

Also, last but not least, it gives that stellar ATI DVD playback.
