mp3s not working in vice city

Hey,

I started playing Vice City again this weekend and I wanted to put some mp3s into the game. There should be a folder in the game directory which is labeled mp3 but its not there. So I created a new one to and it still doesn't work. You guys know what I should do? I remember it used to be there once, cause I've done this before, but I guess it must have somehow gotten deleted.

One more question--when you're up in a helicopter, do the streets look empy until you fly down low? Is the game setting itself like this to make it run smoothly, or what? I have draw distance on full and I'm running at 1280x1024 and it runs very smoothly. Anyway I could adjust this, or is this just the way it was designed? Thanks.

The helicopter thing is normal, to have more stuff rendered when they are far away, look for "draw distance" or something similar in the options, and increase it.

Look in the Readme, and make sure you have the correct location of the MP3 folder. It may be located in My Documents.

I read the readme and it said it should be placed in the main directory folder, like so

C:\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\MP3

Not sure what else I can do, I've capitalized the mp3 like the readme has it, and it still isnt working.

did you look for an option to enable MP3's in the game, maybe there is such an option and it's disabled.

Also, You know that you need to switch the radio in the car to the MP3 player, right?

Yeah I know, when I click the options tab then click the audio, it says no mp3 files are found. It's very weird, cause it should work. Anybody know anything else I could do? Thanks.

Well it may sound simple, but have you the MP3's in the folder? Also, try differently encoded MP3's and at different biterates, maybe that makes a difference.

Hey,

Yes, the mp3s are in the folder. The only ones in there is the red hot chili pepper's By The Way cd which I copied from a friend using windows media player. I dont think the bitrate would make a difference. I'll try different mp3s and see if they work.

I traded out mp3s and it worked. Why do you think the others one were not working? Any way you think I could make them work? Thanks.

Download CDex:
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
Convert the MP3s into WAV, and then convert them back into MP3.

Thanks. I dont get why this would help though. Im trying just wondering why changing it to a WAV then back again would fix it. (I dont know much about this).

The draw distance bar is maxed. Is there anything in the script I could modify to allow more things to be drawn on the screen at once? (ex: higher resolution is something which I know you can change in one game I've played by reworking some of the script files in the game's directory) I know some games you can do this and for soem reason Im thinking vice city is one of them. Is this true? Thanks.

The cdex program isn't converting the mp3s for some reason. I drag and drop them into the program and click encode with nothing checked and it says it's missing the file WmAudSDK.DLL I click ok and the time elapsed counter just runs with nothing else happening. I click cancel and the programs just freezes.

That was your problem right there; Windows Media Player won't rip CDs in .MP3 format. As far as I know, it will only rip in .WMA format.

What program can I rip the cd with which would put em in .mp3 format? Any way to change them without having to rerip the cd besides using that cdex program? It keeps freezing when I try to use it. Thanks.
