Rise of Nations... any tips?

I paid $50 dollars for this game but I have never really been able to enjoy it fully. I like strategy games but I really can't get anywhere in this game. Whenever I do a solo match against the computer on easy I don't get anywhere. I capture a city and the computer takes it back... etc. I never get anywhere. It turns into a fast paced "make as many units as possible" mission with very little strategy involved. Does anyone have any tips for this game? I want to play and enjoy it like I have and still do Age of Empires and Age of Mythology.

Hey, I don't know if you've already been to this site but I find it helpful. I was having trouble with the game at first too, but this site helped. You can pick up a lot of strategy tips in the forums and the recorded games are also very helpful (if you have the time.)

Some of the strategys I now am using are making generals and spies and taking advantage of flanking bonuses. Flanking with a group of horses really will help. If your just playing the computer, you can slow the game down with pause too and arrange everything. This adds a lot more strategy to it.
