PainKiller problems....

I just got a call this morning and ran into the copy protection problem with Painkiller.

This thread list some of the drives that have problems : http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...eadid=33752247

If the poster is right, and the list is growing, then the publisher messed up.
They promised a patch for next week so I would wait till after it's out before buying the game.

This is why copy protection is bad. If you are going to do anything than do it right. If you want to use CD protection than make sure the CD can still be read and works properly in all drives! Bad Ubi Soft.

That's great that they spent all this time and money on copy protection, and there's no dedicated server for the game nor a dedicated linux server for the game.

Oh wait, that's not great, that means that the odds of me buying or very many people playing this game for any length of time = 0%.

This is the news.
The cd patch for the game only works on some computers.
I was reading the PainKiller forum and they'd promised to simply disable safedisc. I guess they didn't.
The guy who called me is one of the people the patch isn't working for.
By the time they put out the second patch they'll have lost alot of customers.

Boom

Great, I just bought Painkiller. Won't run.
I installed the patch so It will launch and see the cdrom.(4MB)
Un-installed CloneCD because it told me to disable or un-install cd/dvd emulation software.
Now it tries to boot. I click on the shortcut to the exe. The disk spins up, the screen goes blank........then right back to the desktop.
I've read where the new patch should fix this problem. Well the patch is 90MB and I have dial-up . Not a chance.
The game is going back to wally world tomorrow. Maybe I'll pick it up in the bargain bin next year. Hopefully they'll put out something that doesn't need multiple downloads for it to work.

I am now seriously considering buying a console. PS2 or X-box.

Took it back to Walmart today. They didn't want to take it back, exchange or give me store credit. It was open was the reason she gave me.
Right before I was about to strangle the lady behind the counter, with some persuading, she said that she would go ahead and let me exchange it for something else. I'll think again before buying software there again.
I exchanged it for CALL OF DUTY UNITED OFFENSIVE expansion pack.
The first one was great. A little short but good. I'm sure this one will be good also.

On the back of the CD case there is an advertisement for CALL OF DUTY FINEST HOUR.
Is this out yet? Has anyone played it?

Fix 4 Pk

go to game copy world. This IS NOT a hack since U paid for the game.
Get the NO CD exe.
It may not be an .exe, they used to all be exe's but now some are not.
U just have to swap out the orig file with the one you DL.

http://gamecopyworld.com/

i just went and checked and they are still there. and it is a .EXE.
this has worked for everyone I know. me included.

That is the store policy of every place I've seen that carries software. It helps cover the store so that you just don't buy the game, make a "backup", and take it back.

has anyone by chance had a similar problem with the game Iron Storm? I kinda had some high hopes for that one, it sure had an interesting story line. It would install ok, but then when I went to play it, the opening movies would be choppy, and then the game would lock up right at the start up screen. Other times, the opening videos would be smooth and as they should, and I would be able to select a menu option, and THEN it would lock up, and sometimes, if I crossed my fingers really hard, I would be able to go back into windows without going into safe mode. I tried the patch, but it did not do anything. Anyone know anything about it?
