Battlefield 2 Revealed

Looks like a new project in the works for us Battlefield nuts

I think I heard something before about Dice hiring the Desert Combat team. If that is true, I would bet they are involved in this project.
If so, it should be a Dandy!!

It's probably a working title. It might change.

Space wars would be tight. Kind of a cross between star wars and star trek would be cool. (plus lightsabers).

BF: V is actually a different engine from what I understand. Perhaps BF 2 will use the older engine.

Hm, wouldn't BF2 just be a revamped version of Desert Combat?

I've been reading on it. Apparently, it's gonna be a monster game with up to 100 people on multiplayer. Wow.

That's crazy. I would ask when is it going to be released but I think I've learned my lesson with HL2. When it comes out then I'll give it a try. Sounds like a fun time. Just think if you could coordinate 50 people on your team to attack one point. Man o' man, that's crazy.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 2004--Move out soldier! Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS) and Digital Illusions today announced that development is underway on the sequel to the award-winning Battlefield 1942(TM) PC game. Battlefield 2(TM), scheduled for release in spring 2005, moves the franchise forward in time to invade the high tech frontlines of modern warfare. Powered by an all new game engine, Battlefield 2 brings the intensity and excitement of its predecessors, Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam(TM), into the modern era with the latest, most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems available to man.In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game's 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC.

Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests, in some of the most notorious hot spots around the world. Each map in Battlefield 2 adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle-to-player ratio and an optimized game play experience. Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates. With in-game success, players increase their rank from recruit all the way to General and unlock awards, including new weapons, vehicle decals, medals, and more.

Additionally, Battlefield 2 showcases an all-new game engine and physics system to bring the modern battlefield to life like never before. The new material penetration feature measures weapons' ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive.
Battlefield 2 is being developed by the original Battlefield 1942 Sweden based developer, Digital Illusions. Electronic Arts will publish and distribute the game for the PC under the EA GAMES(TM) brand worldwide.

Wow. *Drools* That's awesome. 100 players would be awesome; Commander mode looks promising, imagine actual cooperation online! LOL.

Middle East Coalition...would that include camels?

BF:V was created on a edited version on the Refractor 2 engine that bf:1942 used and BF:2 will be on a completly new engine that will have some wierd stuff on it, like it will calculate how many vehicles to place on the maps acording to the amount of ppl on the game....

you havent played any battlefield games yet!?!??!!??!?!
where have you been!!
battlefield is the best game i have ever played and battlefield 2 looks AWESOME

i've always wanted to be able to destroy the game environment, now they wont be able to hide in buildings during my bombing raids

edit: i really hope they make an original 1942 mod for battlefield 2 as i feel modern combat is well too fast and verging on the lines of mindless mayhem of UT
i base this opinion on the DC mod which is too fast and hectic for me

and it would be great to implement the original idea with a newer game engine that opens up even more possiblities to the game

The vehicles is what makes the game so great. Not many game out there that let you go in a tank, helicopter, plane, boat, etc all in the same map, or even lets you pick up a tank with a helicopter

i would of rather waited for BF:V if they had redesigned the engine it ran on.... the technology to "destroy" the enviroment has been round for ages.... Red Faction had it... it would of been better if BF:V was given this....

Add more options to any game and it will most likely be better. Take 7 years to make a game and it will be better. You have to draw the line somewhere.

i think everyone would like it if they included the desructable enviroment into new games... just think running around a game like battlefield and instead of having to leave ur vehicle to kill someone in a building you just blow a hole in the side :P

Yes, that would be sweet. And I bet by the end of the game there wouldn't be any more buildings left standing either.

yeah, taking a thriving city and reducing it to a wasteland of rubble, death and decay is an awesome gaming experience.

Is there really all that much talking in these games? I haven't played for awhile but I don't remember all the talking going on. It's prolly just for dramatic effect in the movie clips.
