Best OS for games
I've got a program 98 lite which gets rid of all the junk in Win 98 and improves stability(suppousiidly)
Which would be best for a games only Partiton,XP or go with this program and win 98? |

XP unless you are playing some of the old games like the first Quake or Doom. Then I would suggest that you make the computer a Dual OS boot with 98 and XP.

XP is a million times more stable than 98. I would never go back.

All games lately are made to work and run just fine in XP. I've played many games in 98 and the same games in XP (same computer, dual boot) and everything was the same. Stability is always a good thing and if your game crashes, it won't take the whole OS with it, go XP. Plus, like morris said, only use 98 for DOS games. I tried compatibility mode and I haven't gotten it to work yet on any of my DOS games.
Good Luck to ya!

I have 98SE, 2k and XP all running on my machine. I have tested the gaming performance between all of them and XP, by far, performs the best.

Also with XP you can run some games which require win 98 or lower. It has a built in program where it can mimic the older OS's thus making the game run. This doesn't always work though...

XP.
Quake and Doom run better on XP and take advantage of the OpenGL API. You just have to download GLQuake and jDoom. But for real oldies, like Crusader: No Regret, or any other game that needs to access the hardware directly, you better do as Morris says.

Yeah tomster, that's what Dragon was saying about compatibility mode... I play a few games in compatibility mode because it doesn't work on XP

XP is definatley more stable and if something crashes it wont take the rest of the OS with it as someone stated, but what really ticks me off is how long it takes for something to go away after u end task on it. On things such as 2000 and 98 even if u go to end task on something it will be instantaneous, but it seems to take a while on XP i usually get impatient and end task about 6 times.
