Deus Ex: Invisible War

Okay, I finally bit the bullet and ordered this one. I'm still waiting for it to arrive. I've already downloaded the latest patch to prepare for the inevitable bugginess. My question: what did everyone think of this game? Deus Ex is probably my favorite game of all time, and from reading various reviews of IW, I have deduced( de-deused? )that it doesn't measure up to the original, which I was expecting. Any and all thoughts would be appreciated( pam123 and NK ).

Sorry Alien Dude. Just my thoughts! I'd recommend you cancel your order, or return it as soon as possible. This game is nothing but disappointment. I have DX2 and I couldn't stand it. They eliminated a lot of key elements from the first DX. No free environments anymore?, you can't have all augs?, horrible loading for traveling to small areas?, hate the inventory size(haven't got that far, maybe it increases later) , no multiplayer(would have sucked anyway, hopefully they don't create another mod)

I really didn't enjoy the original Deus Ex all that much, especially compared to Splinter Cell etc. I haven't seen anything good about the new game either, and what GR says is in line with what I've seen.

(btw, deduced is right)

Jaggannath, I know that 'deduced' is correct, I was just making an inside joke; my brother used to mis-pronounce 'deus' as 'deuce', it just seemed funny to me. Thanks for the input guys, I'm not expecting a lot, but I feel I owe it to myself to play this, especially since I loved the first one so mxch. If anyone else has any comments, please, feel free to interject!

I never got really far in the first Deus Ex. I"m more into games like C&C Renegade, BF1942, and CS. The single player Half-Life was good though.

My dad always says that second parts are never good (another reason I am unimpressed with all that hype about HL2).

I am yet to play DeusEx 2. No point in buying it with this auld video card of mine. Eventually I'll get it, but I don't have high expectations for it. It still doesn't make sense to me how you make a sequel of a game that had three possible endings.

I am in agreement with you on that. I haven't installed it yet(I'm still wasting time on KOTOR), but I'm not really expecting much. Nothing could surpass the sheer brilliance of the first Deus Ex, if I may be so bold. I still play it every few months, then wait a few more months and play through it again. From what I've read, IW isn't as much a true 'sequel' as it is a separate storyline with some tie-ins to the previous game. I'll report back when I eventually get around to playing it.

Please do so. I'd like to know more about the game to see if it's worth getting more than some other game that may be on gthe shelves when I eventually get my new graphics accelerator.

That's what my dad sez, but I reckon it's not always true. Fine exceptions are Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, Thief 2, and several others. But for every sequel that surpassed the original thing, how many are there that just spoiled the good reputation the original had built?

I agree with you on that point Nuclear... some sequels have built on a great idea, whilst the majority suck majorly. It's the same with movies, if not more so

I also enjoy the strategy game sequels, they're often better than the originals because of better AI

HL2 will be good !!! Now no one can create mods that will be better than the original hl2. DX2 wasn't impressed, want my money back! Tell us what you think about it.

Well, I just installed it and played for 20 minutes or so. All I can say is: this thing runs like a beast! Even on my system, I can't run it any higher then 1024x768 if I want a decent frame-rate.

After playing it most of last night, I can honestly say that I'm thoroughly enjoying this game. It is *not* as good as Deus Ex, but they brought back some familiar elements. Also, the graphics are annoying; although I have the game patched, the game resets the Shadows to 'High' every time I load a game, when I have them set to 'Off'. Minor? Maybe. That contributes to a lot of the major slowdown I experience at certain points in the game, because I usually forget to turn them off after every load, and frankly, I shouldn't have to. Overall, I really miss the points-based skills system, it's a very different game without it. I don't mind the 'universal ammo' concept, it simplifies things a little bit without becoming TOO simple. To summarize: there's no way anyone can tell you if you're gonna like this game or not. I loved the first DE, and I like this game, but there are people that also loved DE and hate this game, and vice-versa. You're just gonna have to try it for yourself, I guess.

I just can't stand the loading screens, and the options reseting to default everytime, can't stand the inventory size. I think its a pretty decent game, but not comparable to DX1.

GhostRecon, I agree with you; the Quick Loads are unbearably long. I kind of like the small inventory size, it makes you think a little more about what you're going to try and accomplish in the game, and accordingly, you have to spend those inventory slots wisely. NK, my system is:

P4P800D
2.8C P4
1GB PC3500 Corsair XMS
Hercules Radeon 9800 Pro
Audigy2
WD800JB

Yeah, it's not really that bad, but the graphics are pretty grainy at 1024x768. I've tried 1280x1024, but that causes seizure-inducing slowdown 70% of the time. My standards are pretty high compared to other gamers as far as frame-rate goes. but everyone has complaints about the performance of this game. And it's not as though the graphics will knock you out, they're only above average. If the load times were shorter, and I could play this game at 1280x1024 with minimal slowdown, I'd be in heaven. As it is, I'm getting very engrossed in the story, it's shaping up to be every bit as good as the story in DE.

All right, I just beat the game last night. There are three endings(I think), and while I won't spoil the story, I will say that I leaned towards the ending that I did because of some 'previous loyalties'. All in all, I think IW is a pretty good game. It's definitely worth buying if you are a fan of the previous installment, if only because of the continuation of the storyline.

Impossible you beat it already. I'm just waiting for the release of Half-Life 2, Doom 3, Call of Duty 2, and other good games.

Thanks for being our gaming corresponsal, AWD. I can see now that the Illuminati are alive and kicking in DeusEx 2.

I'll definitely buy it eventually then, when I can afford an upgrade to my system.

It's actually a short game, I was somewhat disappointed that it wasn't longer. I guess they want to leave some storyline for Deus Ex 3!
