Starting @ home gaming server

hello, i am a new member to your site and so far am very pleased with the many posts that i have read. I am a loyal gamer, Tacticalops being my favorite game, which is why i am trying to create a server at home. For my connection i have DSL with upstream speed of 128kbps and downstream up to 384kbps. I would like any help if anyone has ever tried this before or on what there suggestions would be if i could actually host a gaming server from my house, and what kind of server specs i would need, so far a friend said somthing about duel p3's and at least 512 ram? any help would be greatly appreiated thanks.

Welcome to the PCMech, Topgun

Depends on what you will be hosting, how many different games, and how many people would be playing.

The problem is going to be your bandwidth. I have cable internet with the same speed specs. I can host games, but they're usually limited to 4-8 people depending on the game. I've hosted Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc. Never played tactical ops before. You can do it, but you're unfortunately only going to be able to have a few people.

If you do it, you'll have to open up some router ports to alllow people the ability to access your server.
