backup copy PS2 games
I want to make backup copies of my son's PS2 games. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY GOOD SOFTWARE THAT'LL ALLOW ME TO DO THIS??? I'm sick of biting my nails everytime he takes it over to a friend's house. I'm worried it'll come back scratched, damaged, or just not come back at all. It's bad enough these darn things are expensive, I can't afford to lose such "investments".
I've read a little about Games X Copy but the website only indicates PC games for copying? Is this the same as copying a PS2 game??? Can I use DVD ripping software? I don't want to have to buy that thing they call a mod-chip. HELP? |

Not real sure of the legality issue, but I'm sure if you just want a copy of something you already own it'd be fine. What you want is possible, though tricky. You used to be able to do it with a cd burner, but now that all the disks are DVD you have to have a dvd drive (not burner). The easiest thing to do is to use Alcohol 120% to rip the game and then burn it onto another disk. Might not be the cleanest way, but I bet it would work. I doubt it wouldn't mess the game up either. Good luck and hopefully you wont have to use it.
Oh yeah, you can use Alcohol's free trial download to do this. I wouldn't mention the mod chip too much because they're usually frowned upon. They work, but you run the risk of destroying your console, and of course breaking warranty. So precede at your own risk.

OK, A few things.
1:~~You are legally entitled to a backup copy of your game (or whatever it may be) if you own that game. 2:~~You can usually make a working (Working as in getting past the copy protection) backup by just doing a direct DVD-to-DVD copy, Although there are some games that I have seen copied with a few popular burning programs, And they still didn't work (I have seen not done). 3:~~ I guess I should have said this first but anyway, You need a mod chip to get your backups to play, Although there might be another way by using the hard drive Sony released for the PS2, But that's more complicated stuff, If it's even possible. Mod chips can range from cheap"Os to ones with many features, And the prices go along with it. And that's it, I would give you some links later since I have to sleep right now. |

You dont need a modchip to play backups. And you dont want to install modchips prior to version 5. There are several other methods. One being the custom lid, another being the keycard method but do require the swap magic disks. Also backing up the games is fairly easy. You will need a dvd burner. PM or email me if you want info, I cant post specifics here. Honestly it is quite a hassle though because PS2's are cheaply made and the lasers sometimes must be recalibrated to read the backups which is also easy but does require some disassembly.
