CS and steam router problem

I recently just a Linksys Befsr41 router and want to start playing Cs on steam but have encountered a problem.

Whenever I try and play it downloads the security module fine, but stops when it says loading. Im not usre if I have to open any ports becuae i not trying to host a server or anything.

I know this is a router problem because I tried connecting my cable directly to my computer and it ran just fine. Is there anything I could do to avoid having to disconnect my router everytime i wanna play CS.

Does everything else under the router work fine? You are set up for DHCP and can share files and see others on the network and browse the internet ok?
Do you have a firewall? What kind? Try disabling it.

Do you have Windows XP? If so disable the integrated XP firewall because all it does is get in the way. (But you do need a firewall, so go download zonealarm).
