Digital Cam Suggestions
As a graphic designer (and just liking to click the buttons on camera), I really need a digital camera. I will mainly need it for really high quality photos so I can use them in web graphics. Any suggestions? The budget is $500 on this. I was thinking of getting a Canon Powershot (I think that's what its called) because Canon has a good reputation in cameras but what do you guys suggest?

http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/g5/index.html The g5 is a great camera. The 5 megapixel will produce good prints up to 13x19. Highly reccommended.

wow... so many buttons, but looks bulky. How much is it and how does that compare to the S500?

i like the sony cybershot range.. nice and small, simple and looks good.. easy to use, pretty good value too
with a lot of digital cams theres a big delay between pressing the button and it taking the pic.. which doesn't happen w/ these. got two of em in the fam (both 3 mexpixels.. but u can get higher if u want) and pretty happy w/ em. |

Well it says the shutter speed on the S500 is 15 – 1/2,000 sec... I can't even blink that fast.. can I?

Sharif, if your looking for something portable the s500 would be the way to go, but if you think you might get hooked, the g-5 will grow with you as it has many more manual controls and is more of a pro-type camera. Price $519.00 at B/H. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...rch&Q=&ci=1082

thats not what i'm saying.. sure the shutter speed is fast but there may be a delay between pressing the button and it activating. not that i know for sure this is the case with the S500, but from what i've read apparently most digital cameras have this delay the exception being the cybershots. however i dont think it was comparing cameras of this price so perhaps it doesn't suffer the same problem. |

If you're a graphic designer, Canon is the way to go without a doubt. Powershot S1-IS (3.2MP) or the Powershot G5 (5MP). The S1-IS has a great optical zoom and tons of manual features. The G5 has more megapixels but a smaller lens. Both use the Canon Dig!c CCD which gives outstanding quality pictures.
For something in between, the A80 is a 4MP camera with as many manual settings as the S1-IS and G5. Same Dig!c chip but a little smaller footprint - and a nice price. Dave. |
