Congratulations, Byte

You have computer knowledge, good common sense, live in TN and a A+. Wow that is a deadly combo. I have seen a lot of people that just have a A+ and are missing all the other features.

Congrats Byte!!!! Feels good doesn't it?? I passed mine on the 24th of January... I get the impression that the A+ cert doesn't mean to much to some people... I think it's something to be proud of.. I for one, didn't know a mouse from a PCI slot a few yrs ago..

Good Job!! What's next??

Riesz, no offence meant. It is just that I have seen people pass their A+ and MCSE when they have no experience at all. They studied for the test, passed it and that is about all they know about computers.

Congrats byte!

Do you have to be a certain age to take this? I'm 17, is this old enough to take it? Thanks.

Thanks everyone.

Mairving, I liked the graphic effect.

Floppy, I don't know about the age, but it is a 2 part test and each part does cost 132 dollars US.

I believe that if I had done this before now, it would have been enough to have pushed on Job interviews. Where I have came in 2nd a few times, this could have, and will in the future give me a little more of an edge.

Wow that's expensive Byte! I took the A+ test in May 1999 in Massachusetts and it cost $100 bucks all said and done. (for both tests)

Congratulations byte! You have been studying for a while.

There is no age limit for the test btw.

You can get deals on it sometimes if you look around. Might ask dan where he signed up to get the $100 deal.

Congrats byte, I didn't know that A+ has gone adaptive...

So what's next on the agenda?

Hey Floppyman, go for your A+, there's no age limit.

As to paper certs, there's a difference between memorizing answers to exams and actually grabbing a book to study for the exam. Both are considered paper cert but one demonstrate an understanding of the theory.

It can't hurt to have certifications. My company required me to have a NOS cert, so either MCSE or CNE. I am lucky in that my company pays for all my training and certification. Right now I am working on my CCEA and CCNP. My ultimate goal is CCIE.... but that will be a while....

Anyone have questions about certification, let me know. I have study materials for A+ (outdated though), N+, CCNA, MCSE 2k and electives, CCDA, CCNP, Citrix, Solaris.

Here is where I got most of my info

They have new pricing now and the price did go up.

http://www.comptia.org/

The way I understand it, there is VUE and Prometic.
Both charge $132 for each test.
You have you find a testing center and find out which one they deal with.

I called both places and to be honest VUE was more friendly and more helpful. Prometic's was crude, and more interested in Billing you first.

For me, the hardest part was finding a testing center. Every semi local place was no longer giving the test.

For me a few phone calls to friends, lead to calling there friends till I found a testing center, when then told me they were connected to Prometic and to call 800-776-4276. didn't like that.

But it all worked out in the end.

One tips,

So you have decided to take the A plus.

1. Find a testing center.
2. Call and setup the test. My advise is to Pay for the first Part, take it and see if you pass. IF you pass call back and sign up for the second part. That is how I did it.

That way you don't have to pay for the second part if you fail the first part. Ok i was nervous about the test but for me it turned out to be fairly easy. I was sweating for nothing because of my experience.

3. Study. I can't tell you want to study but I can give you some areas. Now a little about the workings of dot matricks and laser printers.( caught me by surprize.) alittle about Laptop computers, the slots, TYPE 1, 2, 3, Caught me by surprize. and KNOW YOUR IRQ'S I was ready for them( including your com and serial ports).

Well done byte

Don't get a big head over it though. As to MCSE certified people I am training one and I have no certificates (this dude knows jack). You have shown through this forum that you understand what it is that you are talking about. I will never get a certificate (unless honours) because they don't prove much. I will certainly not pay micro$oft for one.

Congrats on your A+ (whatever that is) and onward with your search.
