Moreover, the infectious Web sites are not just those of minor companies inhabiting the backwaters of the Web, but major companies, including some banks, said Brent Houlahan, chief technology officer of NetSec.

NetSec's Houlahan advocated drastic action.

"I told my wife, unless it is absolutely necessary and unless you are going to a site like our banking site, stay off the Internet right now," he said.

Heh, I've come across several sites that download a virus/trojan/worm during my googling. Good ol' Symantec takes care of it right away.

It could be worse... like Microsoft leaving it for six months, although I doubt this will happen. At least when people get SP2 (if you havent already) you will be *forced* to get updates. Although on the beta it claimed I had no firewall when I had zonealarm installed and running.

I thought that there was a similar problem in OS X which allowed scripts to be run by clicking on links that contained hidden scripts? I believe I saw this mentioned on The Screen Savers a couple times.

Mac Users are not if danger of this particular exploit, kind of like they weren't vulnerable to Sasser or Blaster. There are plenty of other scripting exploits out there.
