Skipping CD's... Caused by heat?
I have some CD copies in each of my vehicles. When I made them they were perfect copies that played without a hitch. They seem to be getting progressively worse, however. It has been hot here. It's been 80 to 90+ degrees for the last three weeks and now some of them are unplayable. The other day I got in the car and pick up a CD to put in the player and it was too hot to touch. I have a feeling this heat is causing these CD's to play incorrectly. I will aslo note that the one comercial CD I have in the car still plays fine. Is it the fact that CD-R's have dyes and the heat is affecting them?

You hit the nail on the head about the dyes in CD-Rs. I believe that commercial CDs use a more durable substrat than CD-Rs. And the quality of the CD-R could be a factor also.

Haven't tried them in the computer lately. All I know is that they used to play fine in the cars and now they seem to be getting progressively worse.

I've noticed that at least my vehicle the cd's come out of the player somewhat warm after being played back. Couple something like that with the heat that's already there and you might be right.

My one of the CD players does make CD's hot but the other doesn't. They get much hotter in the visor than in the CD player though.

I remember on long trips if I keep my MP3 CD laying for about 12hours, it will get too hot and stop working. So I'd say it's the heat.
