Writing for magazines

Hey, just thinking of jobs (again). I was thinking, if I can write guides for my website, then why couldn't I write for a computer magazine and make some cash in the process? Has anyone wrote for magazines before here?

a highly competitive field that (being a freelance writer).

IF this is something that you want to explore, pick out a couple of magazines that interest you, contact them and request a copy of their "style guide" and types of contributions that they are currently looking for (or would consider).

The style guide will advise you on the tone, feel, content and size of articles that they will accept for review and potential publication.

In addition to this, I would contact a local university and see if there are any currently successful freelance writers that you could talk to on staff. they may be able to give you some guidance on how to proceed here.

as to money, most magazines/newspapers, pay by the inch and for it to be a long term moneymaker, you will have to publish 2 or 3 decent sized articles a month (1000-2500 words).

Wow, never knew it was like that, thanks for the info mbossman. Did you write articles yourself, or are you just very knowledgable on this?
