easy trigonmetry problem

Hey everyone,

I have a slight problem mostly because one of my teachers isn't explaining it well...and I am just really dumb I would appreciate if someone could explain exactly how this works :

A television antenna is to be erected and held by guy wires. If the guy wires are 15 feet from the base of the antenna and the antenna is 10 feet high, what is the exact length of each guy wire?

I really appreciate this.

Yeah I got that far, I am just trying to figure out what the answer is, because it isn't 325, I don't think the root of 325 is the answer either.

you got it right.
I just did a tones of this not long ago.
A^2+B^2 =C^2
10^2+15^2=C^2
100 + 225 =325

C= ^2 root of 325
C=18.02
18 seems like a good answer, i might be wrong though, math isint my strong point.

Been a few years since I had math classes but my memory says that's not trig. More like Plane Geometry. And the problem involves the Pythagorean Theorem. (which is exactly what Ghost has described)

Well, I hope its right...but my teacher calls it Trig, and its being taught out of a Trig book....shrugs, maybe its just review, but from what I know about Trig, its mostly triangles.

Thanks all,

James

You could do a very long method using trig; getting angle values from the A and B sides of the triangle and inverse tangent, and then use law of sine or the law of cosine.... I think. Anyhow, it would all probably simplify back to the pythagorean theorem anyway.
