excellent read pam. my dad told me about how the RIAA were digging themselves into a hole as well. he was as record producer for a while and he told me technology would bury the RIAA.

Doesn't all this just suck for the RIAA? It does however makes me grin endlessly, mostly because it is of their own making. The line it took early on, and stuck to doggedly in the face of attempted compromise, reason and common sense are destroying it. Even its monopoly supported failed business model won't be able to sustain it for much longer. Once again, technology let the cat out of the bag.

I've been saying this from day one that the RIAA wasn't embracing technology but trying to fight it, but one word of caution they (RIAA) are trying to pass bills in the Congress that would put restrictions on hardware/software. Getting back on track, I think their biggest mistake was going after individuals, what better way to get a positive reaction than to sue people <- Notice the Sarcaism.
