Join The Folding@Home Team - Random Drawing For New And Old Members
As the summer heat starts to wean, it’s about that time to start up those Folding@Home apps again. New and old folders are welcome to join. If your computer is just sitting there not doing much, why not put it to use helping scientists save lives?
Come Join the Folding@Home PCMech Team! Our Team Number is: 13761. Basically, the application runs tests on how proteins “fold”, and the results are sent to Stanford University. They then use the information to help understand the cause of diseases like Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson's disease, and in turn, hopefully find a cure. The program runs in the background and uses the idle CPU cycles that other programs don't use, so there will be no impact on operating performance. 10 GMail invites will be randomly drawn on September 18th; two weeks from today, September 4th, and given away to active folders who take part in F@H. You must have submitted at least 4WU before or during that two-week period, and must have been actively folding within those two weeks. Only current folders will be eligible. Folders who have submitted 4WU, but have not submitted anything within the two-week period will not be eligible for the random drawing. If you already have a Gmail account and/or don’t want an invite, another active folder will be randomly drawn. Winners of the drawing will have their user names posted in this thread. If you see your user name appear on the list, contact me via PM. If the invite is not claimed within a week, there will be another random drawing. Good luck! Take a look at this thread to help you get set up and for general folding tips: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=82025 You can find information about folding on the Stanford University page: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/ You can download the client applicable to your operating system here: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandeg.../download.html You can take a look at the PCMech F@H stats here: http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/m...&teamnum=13761 And here: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...php?s=&t=13761 Happy Folding!

Couple of questions about this. Do you have to sign up for this, or are we automatically entered as long as we meet the stated criteria. Also, do you have to have a GMAIL account?

Everyone who was folding and met the requrements for the drawing were entered into a numbered list. 10 numbers were randomly generated, and the folder who had a matching number was selected as one of the drawing winners. This was to ensure fairness so folders who have been folding for a while would have the same chance of winning as someone who was just getting started.
And yes, I have a GMail account. |
