CNA Certification

An opportunity for career advancement has recently come up. Part of the job description is a requirement for CNA certification, which I do not have. I am interested in hearing from anybody else with this certification to hear how hard it is to get, whether self-studying is doable, and so on. I am familiar with networking, I have networked in Windows and in Linux, just not using Novell (aside from resetting forgotten passwords and such). I've been using Novell for several years as just a regular user, so it's not like I am totally unfamiliar with it. Even if I can't get the certification immediately, it would be nice to say that I am working on it. Any thoughts?

I took a CCNA class, I have yet to take the test. If you have networking experience, you shouldn't really have a problem. Don't mistake me, it's not easy, but it's really a fascinating subject matter, and a lot of questions you may have had about networking will definetely be answer (like exactly what a router does, how it communicates, stuff like that, and that's only the tip of the iceberg). Self teaching is a possibility, if you're good at picking stuff up on your own,, plus there are tons of practice tests and books out there for that purpose. But taking a class is a good experience, if you can afford it, because you get hands on experience with Cisco routers.

Actually, it requires a CNA certification (Certified Novell Administrator), not CCNA. As I understand it, I wouldn't be responsible for network hardware, only administering users.

Oops, my bad. I swear, the world of technology is nothing but alphabet soup.

The Exam Cram CNA book is quite good, from what I hear. Also, try MCMCSE.com as a practice resource.
