I have an older Compaq Presario 5000. Used for printing and backup, generally a 2nd machine to my mac. I tend to leave it on all of the time so I can avoid the painfully long bootup sequence.
While working with it last week it froze, and like usual wouldn't turn off using the tower switch. I switched the surge protector on and off and the computer will not come back on. It will not do ANYTHING. Replaced P/S with new, still have nothing. Any suggestions on how to get this thing back up, at least to get my files off of it? It is basically junk anyway. Thanks. Ben M. |

It might be easiest to remove the hard drive and slave it into another machine to get the files off. This will work as long as the failure wasn't the hard drive itself - and if this is the case, you aren't going to get your files off anyway without sending the drive out to a data recovery company.
