And they say Norton is bad...........
This just gave me another reason why I shouldn't install McAfee, even though I have about 3 copies of it on my motherboard CD's.

Don't those laddies at McAfee know that only big boys should be distributing AV software?

AVG, NOD32, and HouseCall anyday. Norton and McAfee are both trash in my book.

Everyone makes mistakes from time to time. What's bad here, is how McAfee is reacting to their mistake. I haven't used McAfee since my DOS days when I discovered F-Prot

I guess the question is why does anyone need a program to connect to their ISP and that disconnects them when the program is uninstalled. Even MS Internet Connection Wizard doesn't disconnect you if you don't use it.

As an interesting postscript to that article, you can see the SLEW of mistakes McAfee has made regarding freezing computers with updates, rendering NT worthless with updates, etc in the "related articles" links at the bottom of that page. I doubt this is the rock bottom for that company. What trash.

I can stand by Norton...I just can't see McAfee on any computer I work on...it's just that bad. Pretty soon, it's going to be a common excuse for missing homework..."teacher, my McAfee AV ate my homework"

What really "bugs" me about this whole thing is that Macaffee has a bad rep and uninformed people are still using it. I just uninstalled it off my aunts computer. I use grisoft's avg and I think its better than norton. There are so many ways to potect yourself these days.

It's so frequently on sale and makes the Sunday Ads...marketing wise, McAfee's CA I think, does a good job. Software...leaves a bit to be desired. It's also PC Mag helping it - when you think AV, you probably think Norton and McAfee - they promote the reputation.

I've run Grisoft's free version of AVG for years and never had a problem.

AVG pops up automatically when it finds a virus/trojan, even tho I didn't tell it to scan. It has some auto aware thing that can find virii w/o scanning. McAfee never did that with me.
