BIOS shorted & fried -- BBQ time

Quote:
Long time [H] reader Chris Trejo sent these pictures of the worst BIOS clearing accident I have ever seen. After looking at these pictures you will seriously think twice when you read “to clear BIOS short jumper 2-3”. Wow.
This is certainly something you don't see everyday...

Sure puts me off clearing the BIOS like that. I remove the battery anyway when I want to clear it, do you know what was wrong with the board that caused that to happen?

In all seriousness, I've *never* seen nor heard of this ever happening. Clearing the CMOS is perfectly safe, and personally, I prefer it to taking out the battery. I'm curious to find out what motherboard that was, though.

I's sure like to know what happened! The one photo is zoomed out pretty far abut shows burn marks around the IDE cables, and the other is zoomed in a little too close to see all of the burned part. What'd the guy try to do, drive a screwdriver thru the mobo with a hammer?

Probably tried to clear the bios with the computer powered up. You shouldn't even do it with it plugged in, much less turned on.
