Electric Lawn Mower

I just purchased and have used an Electric Lawn Mower. It was an idea introduce by an EPA buy back program. You donate a lawnmower and they give you a rebate for $150 if you buy an electric Lawn Mower.

My lawn mower was on the Fritz so I decided to try an Electric One.

I purchased a Mower from Black and Decker which requires a Cord. They make rechargeable models, but I decided to try the corded type. It cuts grass really well and is lighter than a Gas Mower. No Gas Smell, smoke or fumes.

Yeah I have used one before. It worked well. An electric mower wouldn't work well for my lawn though. There are too many obstacles for a cord and a battery powered one wouldn't last long enough to mow the entire thing.

Electric mowers sound like a good idea. Good job, EPA!

Along the same lines as this discussion, I recall seeing a segment on earth friendly cars on some Discovery Channel show. Apparently, some guy had managed to make solid, cheaply manufacturable, hydrogen-rich fuel cells (they looked like hockey pucks) that could power an entire automobile. Of course, the waste fumes were only water vapor...if I can find the story online I'll post it for you guys.

Edit: Here is the exact show I saw. Perhaps you can get the video to work for you. I couldn't. There is more written information on the site, though.

There is a company Called Neutron or something like that and they actually make a mower which can be ordered with a spare battery. They make it so you can easily take one out and put the other one in.

You could acutally make one which ran off of more batteries but it would probably be too heavy or the price of the batteries would significantly raise the price of the mower too high.

The website www.homepower.com sells a solar power magazine that is kind of interesting to read. You can download it and read it too.
