Question Deleting Duplicates

Hi...I was wondering what your guys opinion is of deleting duplicate files, using such programs as Easy Cleaner? A friend told me that it may not be safe, because you could delete a file with the same name that was an important file. I am not sure he based that on anything but his own thought.
I would like to get rid of my duplicates..
What do you think? Thank you..

Anyone?????

What will happen is that any file with the name will get zapped and you won't know what was in it.
When I had to clean-up my ITunes folder after a repair install some files were duds and the only way to tell was to do the reinstall/uninstall manually.
Basic rule, if you ain't sure do it one file at a time and, only after you've checked, can you uninstall it.
So, if you're in doubt, no Easy Cleaner.
