Strange things...
Some strange things have started happening around my house in the last couple of days. First, I noticed that my cordless phone is makeing odd sounds. Static and "50's horror movie radio noise". I don't know how to describe it. Then I noticed some odd diagonal dotted lines on all of the TV's in the house on all channels. Now, today I turned on the speakers on my other computer only to be greeted by very loud static sounds. I decided to try and play music and see if it made a difference. All sounds played on that PC sound like a very weak radio station and mandolins sound like electirc guitars. All these things are very strange and they all started about the same time. I'm thinking some kind of interference... but what? What could be causing these things?

that is weird... Any construction happening around your house? are you in a residential area or near a downtown or Industrial area? Because that sounds like something possibly in the High-end spectrum. Maybe ask your neighbors about similar problems

I'm in a rural area. No construction. No industrial areas for many miles. I haven't talked to any neigbors but I think I will.

Any wireless devices, like a router? I had a problem with static on my PC speakers after installing a wireless keyboard and mouse. It seems the receiver/transmitter was interfering with the speakers somehow. I moved it and all was well.

Nope, no wireless routers or anything else for that matter. I still have no idea what it could be.

Was the house built on top of an old Indian graveyard? It's sounding like poltergeists to me.
Seriously though.....It sounds like electrical interference. I have been having odd problems with some of my customers lately and, believe it or not, we think we have it narrowed down to fly overs by military planes from a nearby base. A couple of customers noted that when one of the military recon type planes flew over they experienced problems. you could try powering down and unplugging for a while and see if that helps. -Spartan |

actually, have you tried your radio in both AM and FM? I definately think its interference, but if you can tell what bandwidths its affecting, you might be able to narrow down the source.
Spartan might be onto something though. Maybe keep an exorcist handy :P |

I haven't noticed any military planes flying around lately. They do occasionally, however. I don't hear any interference on FM or AM. Also, no, there is no indian graveyard.

The answer is obvious, I think. Your household circuitry is intercepting a prolonged alien communique. Please refer to this link:
http://www.mynameisphil.com/ebay/3094009214.html Now do you understand? I thought so. Lock your doors, cover your house in aluminium foil, and rotate your wall outlet plugs once in their sockets. |

Please excuse the double post... Clearly the aliens' fault.

I hope you haven't tried on an aluminum beanie cap in the last few days.

If I were you, I'd keep a close eye on your hair. And make sure that you're not developing any weird colored spots on your skin. Let us know when you start hacking up blood.
On a more serious note: It's obviously EMF. You said you live in a rural area. What's you elevation? How has the weather been? Have you noticed it anywhere else (ie work)? Any powerlines or larger transformers near your house? Is you microwave constantly running? You might consider building yourself a TEMPEST detector. Have you pissed off the government lately? |

Elevation? About 50 feet. Maybe less. The water is right down the hill. There are power lines that go through my yard but they have been there since before the house was built. The microwave is not running all the time. I can't think of anything that would have pissed off the government lately.

I'd say Poltergeist is more in tune to some of the things he's experiencing

if you have any electrician skills, check the main ground for you electrical system in the house (otherwise have an electrician come out and check the grounding). You may not have proper grounding and that may be causing the interference.

Well thanks for all the suggestions. It seems to have subsided for the time being but it's the second time it has done that. I have in fact checked the main ground and all is fine. I checked all the outlets in the house with a tester. I guess I could talk to the PUD if the problem returns. For now I'll just ponder the alien theory.

Wiring
Is your house old like built in the 60 or early 70s. The reason I ask is if you have aluminum wiring in your house and you install a device with copper wires such as a new ceiling fan or something, then it could be the wiring getting ready to over heat and start a fire. Either that or its got to be aliens. There is no other real logical explaination besides aliens.

There certainly is no aluminum wiring in this house. If there was I'd move.
