What would you charge?
My friend and I are in the beginning stages of opening up a computer repair shop. When a friend of ours heard this, he brought me a computer to work on that a friend of his had been having internet connectivity issues. After working on it awhile, it became apparent that it was badly infected with several different virii. So far, I've spent about 4 hours in data recovery and inspection of hardware. It's a HP pavilion 510c and he's lost his recovery cd's, so it looks like he may have to order them from hp, if his os is hosed from the virus problems. I'll probably put in an hour or so more work into this, before this is finished. My question is: How much would you charge for this type of work?

$70.00 an hour no matter what or who's friend it is, sorry but ignorance doesn't come with a get out of jail free card.

The place I work for now does flat rates... $70 for the spyware/virii removal and $100 for the OS install.

Thanks, Guys. This gives me an idea of what sum to charge. I want to be fair with him, but the entire reason of going into business is to make money.

I charge 200 bucks for a job of that scope onsite, so I'd say at least $150 on a carryin.

Flat fees has pros and cons... one job will be 20 minutes to do a virii and spyware removal at $70.. you come out way ahead.. the next will take 2 hours and you're losing.
