When purchasing Windows OEM
At Newegg it says that the OEM version of XP must be bought with hardware. Do you really need to buy hardware with it or is it just saying that because they have to? I have baught parts from them before (enough to make a whole computer), or do you have to buy the hardware with the OS.
Also is Newegg the cheapest place to buy XP from ($90/SP1 $94/SP2), or does anyone know of it cheaper elsewhere? Thanks.

You do need to buy a piece of 'hardware' when you purchase an OEM version of XP, but it can be as simple as an an IDE cable.

newegg is the cheapest, with one exception.
if you look on pricewatch.com under windows XP home, under the Operating systems , under software you find several adds that advertise selling windows XP licenses for about $50 each. So if you have access to a windows XP home cd, you can get one of their legal licenses for about $50 and your good to go. one example is here |
